Are you looking for this 340 motor?

The letter in that part of the VIN designates the assembly plant, not the engine size... The model year of the car was 1969 and the F would be the Newark Assembly plant...

    Wanted: May 5th casting 340 and 4-speed

Don't assume the casting dates as blocks can be unloaded in many stations on the block machining line and then sit on a pallet until that operation becomes starved from upstream, then they load any blocks that they have sitting 'around' to keep the machine lines running... Casting dates can get...

    70 340 Block

The car gets loaded to the assembly line in sequence with the assembly plant sequence number... However, it can be mixed in the paint shop... Two tone paint takes a second pass through the paint shop for the second color vs a single monotone paint which can be done in one "lap" through the...

    70 340 Block

I don't think that the assembly plant sequence number is coded on the fender tag... They are on the broadcast sheets/build sheets that you usually find under a seat or behind the glove box.... There is a space on the build sheet that lists the assembly plant sequence number...

    70 340 Block

VIN is just a number assigned when it is being scheduled for build... Sequence number is on the build sheet.... Sequence number is what actually determines what order it went down the assembly line... Very rarely are two consecutive VIN numbers built back to back.... When a vehicle is...

The assembly plant is coded into the VIN stamp on the front passenger side of the block just above the oil pan... You can at least pin it down to the assembly plant and look up to see what models were built there...
