Anybody know where I can get a custom stencil made to paint words on an air cleaner?

As you all know, I am helping my friend Mark work on his 56 Studebaker Powerhawk. The air cleaner has a big decal on it plus some words that were stenciled on in paint. He found the decal, but we need to get the words on the picture below stenciled on there. I have looked everywhere for somebody...

How do I delete a post?

This has happened to me before. Today I am seeing a lot of posts that contain garbage/gobbledegook that looks like computer program language. I posted the question, and the picture, which looked fine on my phone, was blurry and unreadable in the post. Without the picture, the post was pointless...

    Could not delete post

I tried to post a picture of garbage that was showing up in threads, and the pictures came in really bad. I tried to delete the post, but evidently, that possibility is now gone.

A bottle of pop with a handful of peanuts in it

I was watching TV last night, and someone said their favorite treat as a kid was a bottle of pop with a handful of peanuts in it. I used to do that all the time. As a kid, I used to go to the YMCA. They had ping-pong tables, pool tables, an indoor pool, and lots of other games to play. I could...

I Powder Coated Some Pumpkins Today

I buy metal Lawn decorations from a guy and then powder coat them. I did these two today. Notice the sparkle in the clear coat. I won't be selling these two. One for each daughter. They are both into Halloween decorations.

How the term “Shot” for a shot of whiskey started

We went to the Boot Hill museum at Dodge City, Kansas last week. A museum video told us that a serving of whiskey cost 10 cents back in the Wild West. Coincidentally, a rifle cartridge also cost about 10 cents also. Some saloons would trade a cartridge for a serving of Whiskey. That, they said...

    [FOR SALE] Powder Coating Services

I am officially offering Powder Coating services to the Forum. I have been Powder Coating for a little over 20 years, and I have gotten pretty good at it. Out of respect to Cuda Chick, I never solicited business on this forum in the past. Out of reverence to her, I waited a year after her...

Can I help a friend sell his 1965 Dart Convertible here?

I have a good friend who just bought a nice 69 Dart convertible with a 318, 4 speed, console that looks really nice. He is going to list his 65 Dart convertible with a factory /6 4 speed on Facebook Marketplace. I was wondering if I could help him out by listing it here for him. I like to think...

Crazy difference in diesel prices by stations within 100 yards of each other

We took a short trip in our RV this week, and I noticed a crazy anomaly in diesel prices by stations that were literally 100-200 yards from each other. There would be a Pilot or a Flying J station with diesel at $3.95 and right across the street would be a local chain station, Shell, BP, or...

We made our own pastrami today.

We have a Traeger smoker, and we use it a lot. I make the best ribs around. Anyway, I have been wanting to try making my own pastrami for a long time. I did some research and found out that pastrami is basically like a corned beef brisket only with different spices Found a good recipe video on...

$80 off the black widow spray gun at Harbor freight today only

The fairly new Harbor freight black widow spray gun is $80 off today only, Tuesday, September 30. Most of you have probably heard about the spray gun. It works very nicely. I used one to paint my friends Studebaker last fall. It works as well as many higher dollar guns I have used.

    1956 Studebaker Power Hawk update

We have been busy with Mark’s Studebaker. All parts were painted last fall, and now they are all wet sanded and polished out. It is starting to look like a car. The adjustment of every panel fought us. We hope to have it driving and going to car shows by spring.

What happened to my ability to delete a post?

I tried to delete a post today, because no matter what I did my pictures posted laying on their sides. I have never had this happen before. I tried rotating the pictures in the folder before placing them in the post, but it didn’t matter. So I just tried to delete the whole post, but I couldn’t...

A picture for my Canadian friends

I woke up this morning thinking about some Tim bits and a nice hot cup of Tim Horton coffee. Unfortunately, the nearest Tim Hortons is about 1000 miles away. I got hooked on Tim Hortons visiting my daughter who lives in Canada. So I did the next best thing and put on my Tim Hortons socks this...

Here is how I Make Factory Exhaust Manifolds Look Great for a Long Time.

I see people asking about how to finish factory exhaust manifolds on this forum quite often. They ask about what paint to use, how to prep, etc. Let me show you what I use and how I do it. You do NOT need a powder coating setup to do this process. I do, and it does help a little, but is not...

Has Anyone Here Actually Searched for and Found a car they once owned?

I hear a lot about people searching for the car they had 40 (or so) years ago. They have the VIN and a few pictures. Has anyone on this forum actually found their old car, or know someone who has? Or, for that matter, has anyone found the original engine for their car?

    Excellent Paint Gun Rebuilding Service

I posted a thread a while back about how expensive paint guns had gotten. I have a DeVilbiss SRI Pro touch up gun that was not working very well after 10 years of use. It used to spray an amazing pattern. I called DeVilbiss to ask about a rebuild. They do not not, but they highly recommended a...

Making progress on the 1956 Studebaker power hawk.

Everything is painted and polished out. We are now doing final assembly. The current task is wiring. On an interesting side note, the dash in these old Studebakers is made out of fiberglass. There were so many cracks in the fiberglass it took me a week to fix all the cracks, sand down the...

Wow! Spray Gun Prices Have Gone UP!

I bought a DeVilbiss SRI pro touch up gun about 15 years ago and paid about $250 for it. It was a great little touch up gun. It had an amazing spray pattern. I used it a lot for smaller jobs. The last few times I used it, it didn’t work as well as it used to.l, but it was still OK. After not...

Possibly Dumb Question about Freshening Up an Engine

In the last 50 years, I have rebuilt quite a few engines. Most were complete rebuilds with professional machine work, but two were freshen up builds. On the two freshen ups, I bought new bearings and rings that matched what was in there. For instance, If I freshened up a 340 that was 0.030 over...

    Very Interesting Star Alignment Tonight

I was taking my dogs out for the last time tonight, and I looked up in the sky and saw something very interesting. Three stars evenly spaced in a straight horizontal line. I have never seen this before. I took a rather mediocre picture with my cell phone. The star on the right is Castor (from...

Possible Alternative for Wrinkle Black Paint

I was working on the 56 Studebaker with my friend Mark today. He painted his new fuel tank with a special paint. It looks amazingly like wrinkle black paint. I think it might be a suitable substitute for wrinkle black paint on valve covers. Let me know what you guys think. It is Wurth rattle can...

Progress on my friend’s 86 GMC Jimmy

My friend Mark and I have been helping a lifelong friend of his with his 86 GMC Jimmy for about 2.5 years. It was horribly rusty. In fact, I almost told Mark I was not interested in helping, but I do love a challenge. We wound up having to fabricate a lot of of the parts ourselves. He bought it...

    Safelite sucks!

My daughter’s 2015 Jeep Wrangler needs a new windshield. There is a place in Topeka called Jayhawk body shop and glass, and they have very reasonable prices on glass replacement. They have done glass replacement for me before, and their work is amazing. Their price was $239, and Safelite was...
