Same reason my customer uses it, cast parts that need to look smooth after coating. They have just become accustom to applying it and feel very comfortable with the product.

I use them both depending on the repair. One industrial customer applies the lab metal to every part they send me and they run about 150 a week. No fails in the field after 7 years and these parts are subjected to extreme temps both hot and cold. I guess it is wahtever you get comfortable with.

I have powder coated quite a few of the intake side on turbos. Holds up well and looks good. Ceramic coat the exhaust side. Other fillers you can use are Thermobond3 http://thermobond3.com/default.aspx and Lab metal http://www.alvinproducts.com/.

There are numerous heads in the racing series flowing that. Mike Jefferies can hook you up with one. Check out Cameron Tilley's head on the last chart. It has been done numerous times.

The T60-1 used on the Rampage had all of those features. The Simca had ball bearings but not the lightweight option on the impeller.
