1973-76 SBP new setup for 14" and up Rallyes

We came up with a new setup for the 73-76 A's. It reuses your stock drum spindle and drum hub, so different A-arms are not needed. Hardest thing to do is removing the swedged drum. This will NOT clear the plain steel wheels, but we tested them with Wheel Vintique's 14 x 6" Rallye wheel and it...

New 1973-76 BBP disc upgrade with large rotor

We now offer a BBP disc upgrade for 1973-76 "A" Mopars that use the large Cordoba 11.75" Ø rotor. This is a simple bolt on; no swapping arms or spindles and you can reuse your stock bolts without redrilling. This uses the 1990 style Chevy calipers with internal sliders, and a new HD...

Working on a rear disc for A body...

...but need some help. We have a 8-3/4 "B" axle shaft and end, BBP - need to know if this dimension is the same as the SBP. This dimension is measured from the axle shaft face to the axle housing face (not the retainer plate). We get 2.300" here.

    my drum/disc upgrade(68 dart)

with thanks to Dakota Don, we changed the rotor to a Toyota Previa piece (yeah, I know... but it fit the best.) so it now definitely fits inside the stock drum rims. The calipers may require some rounding - some do not...

    Has anybody seen this "conversion"?

shh... those use Celebrity pads - and you can always ask for 1985-90 Caddy Fleetwood calipers and pads (same thing)

Bill, in the interim I was able to examine a few sets of 65-72 A disc setups for sale. I immediately noted that the rotor was mounted BEHIND the hub, giving much more clearance in a 14" rim. I could do this - modding 1983-94 Ranger 2WD hubs and have it work on either 9 or 10 inch spindles...

I learn something new every day. I had no idea that this rotor mounted behind the hub, ala 4WD style. That would explain the huge register. Unfortunately it would increase the complexity of a bracket by at least a magnitude... but may fit the drum poverty rim now... Our previous version...

UPDATE: Well, after sniffing around a local cruise in with my 71 and GSD, I came home to find the rotor had arrived. After dinner I checked it out. I noted that the pilot hole was much bigger than the SBP. I grabbed a 10" spindle and hub and got to work. Mounting the rotor on the hub...

Since Vs29H1B pointed us in the right direction for these rotors, I will get a set and see what I can match it to. The OEM KH are negative in my book - many better choices to select from. Once done, I may have to offer this as a wheel kit only as not many guys are as willing to dig around as...

Much better - thank you. I will take a careful look, and maybe get a pair of sample to see if they indeed clear the drum rims as some claim.

Well, which is it? They are widely available (O'Reilly, NAPA, Schuck's, Rockauto.com, Year One do NOT list them - only Autozone that I found) or your parts guy can't find them.... can't be both here. If you do go the autozone route, they run $85 each. And the calipers run a cool $150 each...

But as stated it is not 5 on 4". To my knowledge nobody makes a 5 on 4" rotor. So I spent hours scouring NAPA books and other source to find the best match. Since no 5 on 4, bolt pattern was irrelevant - just thickness, width and offset mattered most, cost secondary. I selected the Celebrity...

    Scarebird disc conversion

As stated, the new kit uses a better fitting rotor - it is not inferior in any way to the older setup and allows use of OEM rims. If you wish to go LBP, I would get a 73-76 unit and go from there...

    Scarebird disc conversion

This is what we have been told - perhaps the rims you used orig. are the 5-1/2" wide version? (Hollander 717) as opposed to the 4-1/2" version (Hollander 716)? and to answer an earlier query, GM used this caliper from mid 80's to mid 90's on a couple million cars - I do not see this drying up...
