Sorry no expert but in 54 I think the 2 V8 engins used were a 241 & 260 cid but I could be wrong, try and find a block or head casting #

...a little mod to the back of the cab and you even get an arm rest out of the deal

Just happened to have taken mine off today, pic 2 is a little tricky as it is a mirror reflection of how it mounts, the arrows are pointing at the same screw and if you look close ya see how the bracket runs with the curve of the dash - hope this is what you were looking for .....

.... and since you found a frayed wire to the choke make sure there is power at the choke & it is fully comming off when warmed up - sounds like the power valve is stuck but yes check for fuel pump psi first....

Sounds like a case of glue abuse to me.... it even got red flaged on Craigs list so what does that tell ya...... thinking its some chevy guy who don't know Mopar's and is probaly still trying to find the other "S" .....
