    Seeking 318 rebuild advice

Thx again guys. Trying to keep engine costs down as the Satellite needs some metal work, for example, rebuilding the lower rear window frame and usual qtr panel cancer. Definitely plan to go with dual exhaust. Very happy with the Accurate 2.5" on my RR. Hopefully the bores will...

    Seeking 318 rebuild advice

Thx all, some great ideas! As to the 440-6 RR thing, daughter has requested it look like it did when we bought it (her first car) and doesn't want it to look like mine :):)

    Seeking 318 rebuild advice

Finally getting around to restoring my daughters 70 Sport Satellite with 318/904. Yea, I know a B, but I'm looking for advice on rebuilding the 318. All my experience is with big blocks, I've assembled several so know my way around an engine, just not a SB. The engine is a 68 318 (Sep67...

    727 yoke seal leak

Thx guys. I replaced the seal. The old seal still had the spring in it. I used a little black permatex between the seal and case. No cracks in the case that I can see. If it still leaks I'll try a new yoke. Any suggestions for where to buy? Here's a pic:

    727 yoke seal leak

Drip from spot shown below. Rebuilt 727 with new bushing, new yoke seal. Original yoke looks ok, shaft measures about 1.685 vs spec of 1.6875. Slight rear shaft side to side movement. Also, engine w/727 was broken in on test stand, using yoke wired to prevent movement. No leaking observed...

440 Test Stand: Do I need a ballast resistor?

Coil sees 12v at startup, but I know it isn't supposed to see 12v for extended periods. Just didn't know if 30min qualified as extended.

just to be clear: use ballast: yes?

440 Test Stand: Do I need a ballast resistor?

For my rebuilt 440 initial startup I don't intend to use the alternator/volt reg circuit. Stock distributor with points. The control panel for my engine test stand will use an original ignition switch. I plan to use the stock "start" circuit from the ign switch, yellow wire (battery) to...

    727 Rebuild Questions

Kim, I'm using 10 springs. I believe I'm using both springs in the front servo, but will double check. I set the regulator to street. Not an orig 6pak trans. Could you elaborate on the control load servo/restrictor plug? thx Rich

    727 Rebuild Questions

I was hoping you'd weigh in. Thx. I'll use the .106 ring for the front clutch. Will pick up some new clutch plates and soak as you suggest. Not sure about the rear clutch, probably go as is and see if it wanders in neutral.

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

I wanted to thank you again for your responses/help. Now the search begins for a case without the groove...and perhaps a tail shaft as well (Mr. Munroe said this problem is often caused by a worn/damaged tail shaft snap ring/bearing/groove).

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

I did a bit of surfing and discovered the following kit made by TSR (Munroe) here: A-727 Case Repair Bearing Year 1962 up. This bearing will repair cases damaged by the inner overrunning clutch race hitting the inside rear of the case. Includes bearing and instructions. Machining...

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

Both my cases have the groove, much deeper than fingernail check. Can see the wear on the inner cam (pic). So I guess that brings me to ... do I need to find a case w/o the groove?

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

EXACTLY the book I'm using. I spoke to Mr. Monroe the other day - ordered some parts from him. Nice fellow. Interesting discovery on the overrunning clutch. Looks like the inner cam wore a groove in the housing (pic). Both my 727s have this groove - I suspect it is common. Is this...

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

My apologies...left out the zeros. The shafts look identical except for the odd gold tint. The Charger 727 was supposed used on a race car for a few runs. Perhaps some sort of hardening? Yes, its a 4 disc drum, so I'll leave it at .045" as you recommend. ...this 727 rebuilding is...

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

I drilled on the conservative side for the TF-2, street specs. Good plan---I'll use it. I got the whole 727 apart today. I'm using a 727 from 69 Chgr as donor. Following pic shows 2 output shafts, the "gold" one from the Chgr, the other is from the 727 I'm rebuilding. Is there any...

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

Thx for reply - much appreciated. I'm leaning toward the hughes 2500 converter. It sounds like the blocker would increase the 1-2 firmness, already increased by the TF-2 kit. OTOH, by softening the 1-2, the spring might counteract the TF-2 effects. Given the 2 choices, seems like using the...

    727 Rebuild: Some Questions

727 for street car behind 9.5CR 440-6. Have already installed Transgo TF-2 to firm up shifts and such. Tranny does not have accumulator/spring...and was running OK without. I have an accumulator/spring from a donor 727. Should I install the accumulator/spring? I understand this will soften...
