engine noise

I put adjustable rockers on it but the noise is still there. I've put over 7,000 miles on the engine and it is still running fine. I've just learned to live with the noise.

Hey, it's Kris with the Yellow 73 Dart. It was nice meeting you and I'm glad to hear that you made it home ok. That was one heck of a trip. I really liked your car and the 17's look sweet on it. I'm already thinking about next year.

    pushrod length?

I didn't see your post. It's a Magnum with Engine Quest Heads and a Howards cam

    pushrod length?

It's a hydraulic roller with stock magnum rockers. I have some valve train noise after a cam swap. I bought an adjustable push-rod tool so I could measure and see if my noise was being caused by to short of pushrod. I've never measured pushrod length before and I'm trying to get this...

    pushrod length?

I'm trying to determine if I have the correct length pushrod. The intake is closed and the exhaust is just starting to open. The pushrod just barely spins. There is no up and down movement. Does this sound like it's the correct length?

    engine noise

I need to find a mechanic who can figure it out and fix it. Unfortunately the few mechanics I've spoken with their eye's glaze over when I start talking about measuring for the correct length push rod. I have no clue what I'm doing and when I have to start telling a mechanic why and how to...

    engine noise

Thanks again for the replies. I had the intake off on Sunday. I was hoping to find something easy and obvious. The spider and all the dog bones were there. All the lifter oiling holes were facing towards the cam shaft. I didn't see anything obvious. I put it back together and it doesn't...

    rocker install

I'm chasing down an engine tick and I want to see if oiling holes in my roller lifters were installed the wrong direction. They're pedestal mount stamped 1.6 rockers. What are the steps for re-installing the rockers?

    engine noise

Again thanks for the replies, I've been using a stethoscope, long extension, wooden dowel and a piece of hose to help locate the noise. They all make the noise sound a little different but I can't pin point exactly where it's coming from. I'm pretty sure they are the correct ones. I'll...

    engine noise

Thanks for the replies The sound increases with engine rpm I'm not sure if I've ruled out rocker gear, but I can't feel or hear anything obvious but again I am no mechanic. How do I check the flex-plate? I've looked for cracks and made sure the bolts are tight. I actually put...

could this fluctuation with my oil pressure coincide with a lifter issue? Or is the fluctuation normal? https://youtu.be/ycUEc3ov2_o

    engine noise

I pulled up the dip stick so I know that the crank isn't hitting it and I don't have a windage tray I don't think I have an exhaust leak at the flange or at the collector but I'm wondering if there's a pin hole in one of the tubes. Here's another videohttps://youtu.be/5vChVhCQOjg

    engine noise

Thanks for the replies, the inspection plate is off and the noise is still there. If I do pull the intake I will check for the correct orientation of the oiling holes in the lifters. I've spent a week reading posts and watching YouTube videos to try and convince myself that valve...

    engine noise

I'm still trying to chase this noise down. I've spent a lot of time with a mechanics stethoscope listening everywhere. I feel I hear a more pronounced tinging sound around the passenger side where the intake meets the head. The guy who built my engine was no help. He hears the noise but...

    engine noise

https://youtu.be/XNqNt-FZv3M I just installed a 5.9 Magnum that I had rebuilt. As you can hear in the video I have a ticking noise that does not sound right. I hear the noise the loudest on the passenger side of the car towards the center of the valve cover around #4 and #6. It also...

    Is my motor crooked?

I'm in the process of doing a LA 318 to a 5.9 Magnum swap. I feel like the motor looks a little crooked. Everything lines up though, the engine is bolted to the trans and the bolts on the motor mounts are sitting in the spool on the k frame. I've been staring at this so long that I think it's...

    intake manifold heater hose fitting

I'm installing a new intake manifold and the diameter of the hole for the heater hose return is smaller than the one in my old Perfomer intake. Can I just bush up the fitting or will it hurt anything by having a smaller diameter hole?

    I hate to even ask........

You can get a Howards custom grind ordered through Competition Products shipped to your door for $320. You call Howards and get a recommendation on a grind and then order it through Competition Products who is their sister company. It took about 10 business days to receive mine.

LA 318 to Magnum 360 swap

I've got all my parts on order to finish the swap. My initial plan was to go as cheap as possible but that has changed. I want to be confident that the motor I'm going to install is going to run well. I bought the small valve Enginequest heads with the LA bolt pattern. For now I'm...

LA 318 to Magnum 360 swap

I have a question about the intermediate shaft. The shaft in the Magnum engine is steel correct? If I go with a cast iron LA roller cam then I need to get a cast iron intermediate shaft?

LA 318 to Magnum 360 swap

It's been a while since I've given an update. I had second thoughts about just dropping the motor in and running it. I took the heads to a machine shop and they said they're cracked. They also said the valves are tulliped. I'm going to do Engine Quest Heads and a custom grind cam on a...

LA 318 to Magnum 360 swap

I've made a little progress LA 318 that I've been running the last couple of years. It's been a good little motor that I bought off of Craigslist for $200. It got me into the high 14's. [/IMG] The motor is out [/IMG] with some shimming can I use the 318 mounts on the 360...

LA 318 to Magnum 360 swap

I made the decision to go with a Magnum 360 to replace the LA 318 in my 73 Dart. It was half price day at Pick N Pull so I was able to get the motor for $122. out the door. When you buy a motor from Pick N pull you're not able to start if to hear how it sounds. You cant even have a battery...

    map light switch?

I'm confused on how the map light on my 73 Dart is supposed to function. I'm currently only able to turn on the map light when the dome light is on. I would think that I should be able to turn on the map light without the dome light needing to be on. What way is it supposed to work?

    Sloppy steering

I got the slop out of the box. I followed the service manual on adjusting the sector shaft. It involves removing the pitman arm from the center link, centering the steering and adjusting it till the back lash just disappears. It did the trick. Now when the car is running and I...

    Sloppy steering

I agree that the slop is in the gear box. The pitman arm doesn't move in till the loose feel goes away. The car wanders a lot especially at higher speeds. I don't think it's all related to the slop in the box though. I did take some video of the idler arm. The car is running in the...
