    Mystery smoke from gauge cluster

Is "left handed cig" a reference to a joint?

    Mystery smoke from gauge cluster

couldnt say. just a tiny puff. the cluster was grounded. I suspect i reversed my + and - leads and ran positive through the ground, and it grounded out the gas sending unit pin. but would that necessarily over heat a guage?

    Mystery smoke from gauge cluster

would a simple test of continuity across each gauge verify that the guages are still functioning? I just ran into the same situation on a bench workup of my dash cluster. Tiny puff of smoke , not sure where it came from but the wire traces on pc board are good, and have continuity across...

68 Barracuda Instrument lights not working

Re. Mattax's excellent diagram, do the parking lights and headlights get power from the black wire? And if so, they are not fused? And why not supply power to them via the pink, fused line? I can understand the headlights drawing too much power relative to the dash and dome lights...

[WANTED] '63 Valiant wagon tailgate torsion bar

You could fabricate one. But as far as keeping the torsion, you might need a springy steel. Someone good with steel/welding could better advise you. Mine was broken. I'll check to see if I welded it together, or had to add a new end.

    New and Confused:)

Well, I guess you are confused..........this is a Dart/Valiant forum. But welcome anyway. Lots of engine expertise here. I drove through the Calais border about 30 years ago to visit Fundy. I think it was Calais. I guess I'm confused, too.

    Opinions welcome

I have a 3100 lb Dart wagon with 9 inch rears and the front disc upgrade. Manual brakes. In city driving I need less leg "excercise" to stop quickly than did with the front drums - no doubt! Highway? At 70 the discs stop adequately on busy I 75 , but I haven't had to try evasive, emergency...

Wiper switch circuit breaker and a jolt

I opened switch up to inspect it after outside of it was slightly charred in a fire. Probably reassembled it wrong, as the motor runs when knob is in off ( fully ccw) position. Why I didn't take photos.......?

Wiper switch circuit breaker and a jolt

Closer inspection revealed that the grinding was the wiper motor attempting to turn. But if I wiggle the wiper knob to the right place, the wipers will run strongly. Not sure if that means the wiper contacts are not quite lined up, and so not enough current is moving to the motor, or the...

Who Is In the Market for Early ABodies These Days?

My 64 dart wagon gets a lot of attention from people over 50, I'd say. And women love it! I think the big headlight bezels make it look a little like a bug or a frog. And its Ford Maverick green. Sorry about that. I can't compare the attratction this gets to any other old car I had...

Wiper switch circuit breaker and a jolt

Just like the jolt you get from a push lawn mower. Prior to this shock , I did disassemble the wiper switch to see if all the contacts looked OK. Looked good, but could I have reassembled it wrong, in a way that would cause the breaker to keep tripping?

Wiper switch circuit breaker and a jolt

1964 dart, push button, auto. Recently reassembled the dash with new wire harness.....only driven car half dozen times, but last time I got a good jolt when I lifted the park lever. While trying (unsuccessfully, of course) to reproduce this apparent short, I could hear a very faint sound that...

    High beam switch repair

My dimmer switch clicked nicely, but failed a continuity test. I began investigating by taking off the button -cap, which was not necessary in my case. Only after did I find I could carefully pry out the terminals as an assembly, even though it looks like pot metal, which I thought would...

Another "where does this bit go?" post

This spring was hanging on my '64 dart gas pedal, in storage. Assuming it goes with the pedal, how does it mount? A picture would be a great gift for my birthday next week. Almost ready to return to the road after the fire 3 years ago. Thanks

    64 barracuda fusible link

So, given the common ammeter bypass in which both ammeter wires are connected, (alt wire not going to starter relay as per MAD), the alternator and output wire are protected from a. battery short with just the fuse link on batt. wire going to , formerly going to ammeter?

    64 barracuda fusible link

So the alternator cannot overcharge, and send too much current to the main splice, possiblly burning ignition switch or anything else connected to the main splice? I bring this up because one of the diagrams shown in MAD does show a second fuse link in the alternator wire: Catalog...

    64 barracuda fusible link

Mattax, is it necessary to have a fuse link on alternator output wire if there's one on red batt. wire at bulkhead? I could see where excess alt output could overheat wires before current exits firewall and hits that "batt" red wire fuse link at starter relay.....but please correct me if I'm...

    After a fire.....

Rounding corner on getting this wagon on road. It has a power tailgate window. It seems there is a 10 ga, black wire supplying 12 v to the circuit breaker in photo 1. But the source end of wire burned away. There are 2 pics of circuit breakers in manual. One connects a red wire to the...

    Shop work day

I was pounding a ball joint knuckle with a small steel sledge, in my shorts. A fragment of the hammer the size of a rice grain remains in my shin. It could have gone somewhere more, well, tender.
