tick in a 6.1 Hemi engine

Sounds a little like a problem with the anti-drain back valve in the oil filter but you'd think it would do it on the initial start up as well.

    Advance Plate

Assuming the factory 13 is accurate, that will give you 26* of mechanical advance.

    no oil pressure

Did you pay with a credit card. Having a charge back would probably get their attention. Did you supply the engine core or did they supply it? If you supplied the engine reversing the charge on your card might lose you the core.

Cree LED bulb headlight conversion write-up *pics*

Found another review of these (or at least similar) lights at http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=831061#post831061 His comment of "The halogens have some light above them while the LEDs do not. This actually has made it harder to see highway signage at any real distance at night...

    273 Engine with Frankenheads Setup

I have an engine that is supposed to be a 66 273, that has the early (65) casting number heads but the heads have the larger bolts and late bolt angle and no sign of modification. Only thing I can figure is that they machined some of the early heads with the late bolt angle at the beginning of...

273 Engine set up I'm thinking of going with, let me know what you think

Reading the other responses I thought the 10.3 pistons were for a 340 (much larger bore than the little 273).

273 Engine set up I'm thinking of going with, let me know what you think

mikeyt2014, I don't think it is possible to get 10.3:1 compression. If you follow toolmanmike's build thread (link is in his signature line) and look at post 169 on page 7 he ended up with 9.6:1 using the "high compression" Egge replacement pistons with a little shaving on the heads.

273-2 performance (or lack there of) question

I drove my 1948 Plymouth from Omaha to the Bonneville Salt Flats going about 80mph on I-80 the whole way. Pulled (most) of the hills just fine and had enough power. My plymouth at that time had a 273 with 2-barrel and a 904 trans with a 8-3/4 rear with 2.94 gears. I would guess my Plymouth...

I don't see why hardware store bolts (preferrably painted) wouldn't work.

Cases will be different between /6 and small block but I'm guessing you already knew that.

    6 cyl trans on v8?

Would 93 still be a hydraulically shifted trans or is that new enough to be electronically shifted?

    OD trans behind a 273

Another factor to keep in mind is that you might need to have a custom torque converter made. From my reading here it is my understanding that the register in the crankshaft changed the same year the number of input splines changed on the automatic transmissions. When putting a late engine in...

What Cam and lifter set for stock 1965 273?

Keep in mind the '64 and '65 273 heads have a different bolt angle for the intake than the later engines. You'll either need an intake for 64-5 engines or you'll have to egg out the holes on the intake so the later intake fits.

Nevermind, I think I found one.

    904 governor screen

I am having a friend rebuild my trans and the kit did not include a governor screen and of course he threw away the old one. So far I'm not finding anyone that sells this piece separately. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one? Thank you.

    [SOLD] 1964-65 Rebuilt 273 Heads

From what I've read (mostly here) the easy way to tell is by the bolt size. 5/16 is 64-5 and 3/8 is 66+.

    [SOLD] 1964-65 Rebuilt 273 Heads

I recently bought a 273 with a late 65 casting date that has 2465315-3 heads with the 66+ bolt angle and bolt size.

FYI dual quad for early 273 on eBay

Intake angle and width between the heads is the same but the bolt is at a different angle. My 65 273 has a later 2bbl intake on it, accomplished by egging out the bolt holes in the intake. Not ideal since the bolt does not meet the intake flat but it worked.

    Mild 318 engine build advice

Have a few more questions. I might have a chance at a little bit newer and lower mileage 318. Guy seemed a little confused on what year it was but it sounded like it might be new enough to have roller lifters (pre magnum though). I already have a set of 1965 heads I want to run (have a...

    Mild 318 engine build advice

Thanks everyone. Based on what you've said 273, I'll probably leave the valves alone since the 273 2bbl pushed the car around just fine for what it is. If any of you have any other suggestions or things I should look out for I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

    Mild 318 engine build advice

As a background, I have a 48 plymouth that a 1965 273 was swapped into at some point in its life. This site has been a great source for info on these little motors and that is why I joined here. Recently I went on a trip with the car (Bonneville) that was roughly 2300 miles (1050 each way plus...

1967 Barracuda two barrel carter ball and ball

Some of the later model BBD carbs had a solenoid operated by a computer to adjust fuel air ratio. That might be what your arrow points to but I'm not sure. I think they mostly came on Jeeps.

    Reward

I don't think the 64-5 piece will help you since it was on the passenger side (just like the one you posted). I currently don't have a timing mark because I have an early timing cover (for cast iron water pumps) with a late (aluminum) water pump and had to remove the one like in the original...

Stock 273 and D64 dual quad intake

I recently purchased a 48 plymouth into which someone swapped a small block mopar engine. After looking up the casting numbers what I thought was probably a 318 is actually a 273 with a late (december I think) 1964 casting date. I'm assuming the engine started it's life in an a-body based on...
