    Dics brake conversion

I highly recommend Scarebird. I recently used a Scarebird kit to do a front disc brake conversion on my '66 Valiant with SBP and 14" rims.

    Australian Charger on Ebay Motors

Not mine! I saw this on Ebay Motors and had to share it with FABO: Australian 1972 Valiant Charger 265 Hemi Six Pack http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Valiant-Charger-265-Hemi-Six-Pack-/221237041280?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3382c15880 Here's some info on the engine (an Australian Hemi...

Very nice 67 Plymouth Valiant on Portland Craigslist.

I went to look at this car the other day and actually drove it. The black and chrome does look good, but up close you can see that whoever painted it black (the car was originally brown) did a decent job, but not a great job. The interior is still brown, and by that I mean not just the...

    mid-60s looking steering wheel?

Hi All, I've got a 1966 Valiant that I bought last summer. It came with a steering wheel that just doesn't go with the car, it looks like it belongs on a mustang. I've look for NOS and reproduction steering wheels for this car and there is not much selection at all - and what is available is...

    Instrument Cluster for 1966 Valiant

I'm looking for an instrument cluster for a 1966 Valiant. I'd be interested in just the bezel too. Thanks in advance.

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

Captain Easy, Thanks for your input. What I'm most worried about is that the low mileage I'm getting now indicates something very wrong with this car. I posted this in a earlier reply, but I almost got a Subaru wagon, but just couldn't get excited about it. I really do want this Valiant, and...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

slantsixdan, I'm doing my best to avail myself of the advice and info in this thread. I've ordered two of the books mentioned in your "Post subject: New To Slant-6 Car Ownership? Buy These Three Books!" post on slantsix.org. I also registered at slantsix.org and am waiting for the admin there...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

Once again guys, big thanks all around from this noob. I'm motivated to learn, and its definitely worth trying the out simple/cheap/free fixes before going for and engine swap or rebuild. One thing about that engine listed on Craigslist: it may not be any better than the engine I have now...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

Thanks for posting that, rmchrgr. I guess I ought to consider that as an option. Something tells me, though, that after the labor cost of having another engine put in my Valiant, I might as well go a head rebuild the engine it has now.

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

65DartGTconv, Thanks for underlining what BillGrissom had to say. slantsixdan, I would much rather be working on this engine myself, and I'm motivated to learn. I know that in the end it will probably leave me and the car happier and my wallet fatter rather than flatter. However, where I...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

slantsixdan, rmchrgr, Thanks again for all your replies and all the info. It was about four weeks ago when I picked up the car and spoke to the mechanic, so I may not have remembered exactly what he said about that knock-like sound that occurs only at idle when the engine warms up. I don't...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

rmchrgr, What my mechanic had to say was very similar to what you wrote above. He said that the high leak down percentages are probably due to worn rings and/or valves, but that he can't be sure without taking the head off. He said that worst case I'd be looking at about $2,000 for an engine...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

The carb is Holley 1920 and I just had it overhauled. Would you recommend replacing it with a NOS carb? if so, which one? The drum brakes are good, says my mechanic.

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

slantsixdan, I checked the odometer when I first got the car, and again earlier today. Today I did 15 miles on the interstate (according to the mile markers), and the odometer showed 15.3 miles. If anything that should slightly overestimate mileage, but not significantly - if the interstate...

    1966 Signet

That is a sweet looking Signet. I wish I'd seen it about 3 or 4 months ago. I'd been looking for a '63-'66 Dart or Valiant and ended with '66 Valiant 100 (see my avatar pic). Overall I'm happy with the car, but its an auto and I love driving a manual trans. Where in Southern Oregon are you...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

I finally burned thru a whole tank of gas and calculated the mileage: 13mpg (mix of city and hwy) I was hoping for 15mpg or better, but 13 is sure beats 10.

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

67Dart273, I wanted to update the board with the work that was done on the car. Obviously I won't know if the mileage has gotten any better until I fill up the tank next. The mechanic said the leakage is due to worn rings and/or cylinders. The oil level is stable.

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

First, thanks to all who responded with tips and suggestions. I just got the car back from the shop and it is running much better. Actually it ran well before, but it had idled rough since I got it. The idle is still a bit rough, but a lot better than before. Here's what was done to it...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

Thanks for all the replies, guys. There are no leaks (as far as I can tell). I had a tune up done about 4 weeks ago, and the car got a good bill of health. They checked each cylinder and compression is good. I've been checking mileage just using the odometer...

noob needs help with mileage - only 10 MPG!

I've got a 1966 Valiant with a 225 slant six and the Torqueflite 3-speed auto. The engine is not original, and according to the casting numbers it is a 1980 production year engine. Anyway, I've had this car only about 2 months, its my first Mopar, my first slant six, and my first classic car...

    dash bezels for '66 Valiant

hi all, I just got a '66 Plymouth Valiant, which overall is in pretty good shape. The dash and its bezels don't look all that bad, but are showing their age. Can anyone recommend a place where I can find dash bezels (restored, new or NOS), specifically a heater panel and radio bezel? And while...
