    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Got today the shims for the engine mounts, decided to use 4mm laser cut aluminium. Now the TTi headers clear the steering box.

Wow, I cannot believe it is already 2 years since the last update... It has been a bit quiet on the project, but this Duster will run some day, currently the target is next summer. I was very nice and the Santa Claus brought me a dodgeful of goods :D A lot has happened and plans have changed...

Thanks, love the wheels too. Happened to find a set of very nice 14” small bolt pattern Cragars only for 300 euros Thanks. I saw somewhere an example and thought it work as a shroud. But now that you mentioned it, I took a second look and it was open from both sides, attached only from top and...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Thanks for asking :) The project is proceeding, slowly but steadily... The driver side floor pan is now fixed as well as the small extra holes. The front floor is painted with POR15. I have put the car back on its wheels, so the frontend suspension and steering is all back together. I...

Wow, the parts came from powdercoating, something just unbelievable. The control arms are like new, holy **** :D And look at the K frame :D I started to work on the control arm bushings, first the upper. I use K7103 offset bushings. I also got the new heater core finally, but the...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Heater box proceeding, waiting for the heater core to arrive next week so I can finish it up. In the mean time I changed the axle shaft bearings to modern versions. Finally received the LH floor panel, the RH has disappeared somewhere on the way. Should start planning how to cut...

Slowly but steadily progressing, let's see if this will run next summer. I have all front suspension parts and the rear end at the powder coating, hoping to get them this or the following week back. Now been working on these tiny things... Got the rebuild kit from DMT again, used the...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Thanks guys. I need to get high stall converter and have been reading about it through several forums and facebook. I was first thinking of TCI converter, but ended up reading a lot of bad feedback about it. I decided ask an offer from SMR transmissions. Pat over there custom makes the...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Almost finished with the engine, the only things missing at the moment are the waterpump and crankshaft pulleys. I got the AREngineering brackets for the Denso style alternator and it looks great. I still need to glue the water pump on its place, but I needed a couple of fresh bolts to do that...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

The project proceeded again during the Christmas break. I got the engine prepared (used POR15 Metal Ready) and painted. Got my Schumacher engine mounts, seems to be perfect :) The engine was missing the oil filter base plate and fitting, seemed to be pretty rare parts...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

The dash and other smaller parts are now sandblasted. The dash had been green originally and painted black later on. The worst part is this speaker net: Someone has done some hacking for the radio hole, but that will not be an issue since I am putting some new DIN sized stereos...

The instrument cluster is in pretty rough shape, got me thinking to go to custom cluster totally. And as the new wiring kit includes the switches, it might be even easier.

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

The tunnel ram manifold was painted orange by the PO and it did not fit into my plans, I am painting the engine turqoise. At first I tried to remove the paint with chemicals. It worked out ok to some limit, but the paint was very well attached to aluminum. I decided to try soda...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

I came to that conclusion as well, especially now that I am targeting the real eighties look with the tunnel ram and raised rear end. The current angle might actually be quite close.

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Finally got around to work on the Duster again. Summer is over and the carage time starts :) I have started with checking out the rear end for any clearance issues. I did not pay any attention earlier for the springs but I seem to have 7 leaves, so no clearance issues: Now that the...

[WANTED] 340/360 engine mounts for 71 Duster

Hi, I am searching for 340/360 engine mounts, especially the brackets for my 71 Duster project. The car is originally 318, now putting a 73 340 engine. I have a shipping location in 33460 Florida. Thanks, JP

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Change of plans... I just bought a freshly built 340 engine with Ross Racing pistons and purple shaft (292) etc. Once I plant that tunnel ram on it, this Duster should go fast enough for me :)

Got the frame connectors to home. Planning to paint them with POR15 before installation. I also found the angle finder, might be able to measure the pinion angle next weekend.

So I could put shims between the perch and the spring and adjust the angle with that? I think I will leave the relocation at least for now, I have the 14" wheels and as I decided to still stay with the small bolt pattern, I am not immediately going for bigger (and wider) tires.

thanks :) The intake is Weiand tunnel ram. Currently with two 650 cfm Holleys, but for my engine they are way too big, going for 390 holleys instead.

For myself and anyone interested, here is a link to reference for the pinion angle. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/axle/8.html From the pictures how it looks, I would guess the rear end requires some work...

Thanks, I never even knew such angle finder exists, so it is something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/pinion-engine-frame-suspention-degree-angle-finder-motor-pontiac-mopar-jeep-amx-/271726244056?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f442570d8&vxp=mtr Let's see, at least here...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Yeah, I was able to spend some hours at the carage. I was checking out my 489 center section and noticed that the Pinion is broken, so I need to start looking for a new one. The 8 3/4 rear end seems to sit pretty well, it would look like it leans a bit more backwards than it...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

OK, now I got the wheels, missing only the rear tires. They seem to be in very good shape, requires some polishing but nothing else. And the rear wheel is wide enough. And also got the SBP brake plates, already sandblasted and epoxed. Let's see if I will be able to try them out...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Hello, an update after the years change. I've been mainly collecting bits and pieces for the Duster and have not been working with the car too much. Since the last update I did some rust prevention to the bottom of the car. Just yesterday I dropped the rear end off. You can see the rust...

    My 71 Duster Project

Hi Ken, just finished reading the whole thread, nice job! I started my Duster last summer (http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=283464), mainly I've been collecting missing parts so far. I'll have to post an update soon, especially now inspired again by your thread :)...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Thanks guys for the information. There was also an extra 8 3/4 rear end case and the axels: Is there a ready package of differentials which would include everything somewhere? I tried to look from summitracing, but did not find (perhaps didn't know what to look for...) I am planning to do...

    1971 Plymouth Duster project

Since I've already introduced myself in the Welcome Wagon, let's go into project right away. I've done almost a full C-body resto project and wanted now something that does not have to be original and something with performance and attitude. This '71 Duster just happened to come available and...
