    MSD streetfire problems!

I've just had a round with a Street Fire and have concluded that there is something wrong with my box too. It ran fine on the bottom end, ran ok on the top end, but would spit, sputter and backfire at cruise. I just put the HEI back in and the problem is cured. It's very disheartening because...

    Low compression when hot

All cylinders across the board. I really didn't think this would end up being this big of a discussion. I just found it odd that it would be lower when hot. Seems it should be higher when hot. Most of what had been said here I've either done, thought of, or am in the process if doing. My...

    Low compression when hot

Yes. Existed before. That was the reason for swapping then.

    Low compression when hot

Things were exactly the same with the previous lifters, which were not antipump up lifters.

    Low compression when hot

Started by adjusting the valves to zero lash and then 1/2 turn. I had the same thought about too much preload and readjusted them to zero lash and tested again. Same problem. That's when I put in a set of antipump up lifters to eliminate that possibility.

    Low compression when hot

Heads were worked. Studs torqued to 110 lbs per manufacturer instructions. Not sure what hone the maching shop used.

    Low compression when hot

Boy, didn't know there would be a fight over a simple question. To answer a couple questions, yes the car runs better cold. I have driven it on the street but only put about 150 miles on it. As far as ring break in, there are half a million opinions on how to break in molly rings. I did the...

    Low compression when hot

And by the way, comp cams recommends 9.25:1 compression or higher with this cam. It's also backed by a 4 speed and 3.91 gears.

    Low compression when hot

Pistons are .040 down in the hole. It's bored .040 and the 302 heads are closed chambers. The comp. calculator I used showed a comp. ratio of 9.75:1. I plan to do a leakdown test soon. It just didn't make sense that it would lose and not gain comp. when hot .

    Low compression when hot

Here you go. I have a '69 318 with fresh from the machine shop 302 heads milled .006, .028 head gasket, flat top pistons and a comp XE284 cam. Here's the thing that has me puzzled. When the engine is cold, my cylinder pressure is 135 lbs. When I run it for a few minutes and get it up to...

    Same o same o 360 balance problem

Hot Rod Garage recently had a similar problem. It turned out to be their torque converter. It shook so bad that they broke the flex plate.

    Elderbrock air gap intake question

A small block mopar doesn't have water running through the rear of the intake. At least that's what I always thought. The head gaskets are designed to block th rear passage and force it to cross in the front, where the T Stat is. AM I wrong in this?

    318 deck is .004 warped

Problem solved. I took a gamble, since I had the gaskets, and the white smoke is gone. Just incase anyone has ever wondered about the quality of Speedway/procomp head studs, I used them on this project. They were $70 and went together perfectly. I used these studs along with a Mr. GASKET .028...

    318 deck is .004 warped

I'm running 302 heads that were just milled .006 to true them up. Compression is not a problem right now. With my pistons and these heads, the compression calculator is showing 9.5:1 now. I do have to cc these heads to verify the chamber size though. 10:1 would be awesome, but I really don't...

    318 deck is .004 warped

First of all, thanks for all the reponses. To answer a couple questions, the dip is between 4 and 6. When measuring straight across from front to back, it's .003 out. When I measure on a diagonal it's .004 out. I don't think this block has ever been previously milled. If it has been milled...

    318 deck is .004 warped

My 69 318 block is measuring untrue by .004, will the head gaskets seal? I have already blown a head gasket on this moderate build. Sent the heads out and found the problem bank was warped .005. I have now had the heads milled and checked the block before putting them back on and have found...
