    W2 heads on a 318

I'm the op of this thread. The cars backhalved with a 4 link, narrow 9" with 4.10s, and a 727 with a 3500 stall converter, and weighs around 2500 lbs. I'm not scared of rpms, or too concerned with "streetability". The nastier the better! It had just a set of flat tops on it before, with factory...

    340 Idles at 3200 RPM!

It's a common mistake for guys to put the linkage rod that goes to the choke blades on backwards. Somehow it can go both directions, but one way is wrong and will make it idle really high.

You guys got me itching to put this thing together.

    W2 heads on a 318

Yeah I picked em up a couple years ago from a guy who ran em for a season. They're like new, the ports look untouched and they're complete with valves, springs, rockers, etc. Guess I'll give em a shot.

    W2 heads on a 318

Yeah that's the plan. What kind of power and revs will the 340 rods take? They've been double shot peened, sized, and bushed with arp bolts.

    W2 heads on a 318

Sorry if I made it unclear. I was planning on 550ish with the 408. It'll take a bit to get that from the 318, but if it's possible why not. I'm not afraid to spin it to get there. I was mainly wondering if the w2s are worth even the thought of putting them on the 318. I guess enough compression...

    W2 heads on a 318

I like the long replies ha, gives me stuff to think about. I don't know if the 318 will do the 550 hp range, I guess it's possible. It ran mid 12s before, traction was an issue with street tires, but I backhalved it and put a 4 link under it with tubs so I can put any size tire on it I need to...

    W2 heads on a 318

Hmmm, the combustion chamber is 4.06" diameter, the valves outside to outside are 3.695". Might not work with the 318 punched .030" over. Right now I have 4.11s with 27" tall tires. 3500 stall converter

    W2 heads on a 318

Right on. It'll be going in a lightweight 67 dart, weighs right around 2500 lbs without me in it. Thanks for the replies guys.

    W2 heads on a 318

So I've wanted to build a stroker for awhile and have been collecting parts. I have a 73 360 block (thick casting-hopefully), econo w2 heads and single plane intake. I wanted to be in the 550 hp range. The stroker stuff with a forged crank and H beams isn't cheap though. I built a decent running...

    Pump gas octane + ethanol

I was just reading about this today. They say ethanol is around 114 octane, e85 is around 106 octane. It takes around twice as much e85 to equal the same a/f ratio as 100% gas. Guys are also making more power running e85 when tuned properly. I've been out of the hot rod loop for awhile so I'm...

360 Six Pack lots of initial timing!!!

Are you sure you have the timing light hooked to #1 plug wire? (I'd bet you do) Maybe you're getting some cross fire from another cylinder? Bad cap/rotor, or wires? Just thinking out loud. Where are you for total advance now?
