The importance of measuring bell housing runout.

Go look at your 60's and 70's service manuals from Dodge/Plymouth. There is a whole chapter on aligning bell housings and the importance of it. I have been doing the alignment checks on all my motors I build for over 30 years. Even Ford and GM. The only time I find something way out either face...

    Trans shield

Your blanket will not fit my application. Now also you are correct, the drum exploding is the result of something else. Most I have seen are stock U joints breakage in the burnout box, the trans in first gear. Now when you do a burnout you start in second. Now I have never seen a billet drum...

    Trans shield

CSR Performance Products. The only item is the body seam in the trans tunnel needs to be flattened or removed before installing the trans in the car. I cut mine back and reweld the seam in a few places. That goes for any type shield. I have seen the blankets get torn on that seam and then they...

    Trans shield

Looks like a very good product. But out here on the West Coast never have heard of your company. The other issue all my small block cars run chassis headers and in the A bodies that is tight. The main problem out here is the engine diapers burning on the headers. In my new car I built my own...

    Trans shield

But the blanket is only certified for 2 years and the Kevlar shield is 5 years and can be recertified for 15% of the original cost. Plus every blanket that I have dealt with usually oil soak and thrown away. I am sure your product is very good, but my pocketbook I will stay with my shield. I...

    Trans shield

One other item if you are running faster than 10.99 you are required to have a trans shield or blanket. My feeling is you are drag tires both bias ply or drag radials you should have a billet drum and a shield.

    Trans shield

I will only use the shield. I have been running the same one for 15 years and just got it recertified for another 5 years. One thing you have to remember the shield cert is good for 5 years. The cert on the blanket is 2 years and has to be replaced. My CSR shield fits just fine in my small...

    Bell Never Aligned

I always install the dial indicator in the crank and dial to the hole in the bellhousing. I have made special tools over the years to set it up and get the alignment. It usually takes about 45 minutes to realign a bell housing on a small block. Because you can punch the dowels out, not like a...

    Bell Never Aligned

No just check the alignment, if it is over .007" total, get the .007" offset dowels and realign. Do NOT drill and resize does not move the alignment. As far as Cummins that is a big diesel and the specs are different. Just drilling and reaming the hole does not move the bellhousing, just makes a...

    Bell Never Aligned

I would not put anything together unless the alignment is checked. Remember it is the details that always come back bite us in the butt. All the comments that have been made show the signs of misalignment from cracked flex plates to damaging the clutches and poor shifting trans.

    Bell Never Aligned

Bellhousing alignment is a critical item. There is a section in the factory service manuals just on this item. Now some history on alignments. On both automatics and manual shift trans the factory spec is .007" total runout. The reason this should be checked is every time a block is lined honed...

Any fabo members up in Seattle or near by ?

I would be more than happy to meet with you. I am just off the I-5/ 405 interchange in the north end. I have a shop at my house, so if your interested we can get together. I happen to like the 400 blocks better. I built my son a 400 with a 4.150 Molnar crank. It worked out to be 512 with a a...

Any fabo members up in Seattle or near by ?

Look at this way. On my small blocks I am up 90 cubic inches, but the duration on the cam for street use will stay about the same. I have gone 3.31" to 4.125" stroke and the duration at .050 maybe go up from 228 to 232. The factor that will be the same is the top end(heads, intake, carb) If you go...

30 cubic inches isn't going to change much. When we get up over 500 inches start to change, but not as much as you would think. I have found on the 572 inch stuff i can get away with about 15 - 20 degrees of more duration at .050. But it depends on whether it is auto or manual. Manual we can get...

The main problem is the oil we use today. I had a small block we ran in a dragster with solid tappet flat tappet cam with EDM lifters and because he did not use Zinc additive in the race oil the cam was gone in 50 passes. The oil advertised having zinc, but not enough. The cam was broken in on...

I do not have any pictures on this computer. If there are pictures out there then someone else took them. Kinda hard to drive and take pictures. Anyway we are always parked together at Woodburn. Mine is the blue 68 Dart with with white stripe across the back. We both made it to the quarterfinals...

No, I don't think so. I have some from Mission BC where I usually race. I will have to figure out how to post them. NWdart from Friday Harbor has a picture of his Dart. That has one of my 340's and 904 tans I did for him, his motor is the same short block as mine. He is in the 9:70's

I was reading your posts and I have a couple of questions. One is why the the flat tappet cam? I roller cam will make more manifold vacuum for street use and more power. The other question I have yet to see any motor with over 11 to 1 scr that doesn't ping on the street. It will run on premium...
