Finishing my dad’s custom 65 barracuda

It’s been running since the Fourth of July. Got a few trim pieces to attach and some details to work out but it runs pretty good. I haven’t hit the nitrous button yet. No seatbelts, and it hasn’t been aligned yet.

Finishing my dad’s custom 65 barracuda

Nope, my dad did it. All the custom stuff he did like the interior trunk hinges, removing that bulge in the quarter panels, etc is stuff he did over the last 30 years!

Finishing my dad’s custom 65 barracuda

The rear wheel mod should have been factory in the first place IMHO. I think the blue tape is to check ride height and was used as a reference. The car seems pretty fast but haven't gotten on it yet. The front end needs alignment and there aren't any seatbelts.

Thanks, I will try to get better photos this weekend. I'm hunting for a grill right now. I probably should wash and wax it too!

Finishing my dad’s custom 65 barracuda

Today is the day we start the engine swap. The engine that is currently in the car is a mildly warmed-over 360. The engine on the chain is a 030 over 360 with a stroker crank, roller cam, Edelbrock ported heads. The engine coming out will end up in my truck, seen in the last 2 pics. I had to do...

[WANTED] 408 LA roller cam wanted

I'm looking for a street/strip roller cam for a LA stroker 408 build. They seem to be in short supply out there! I'm located in Rapid City, South Dakota

    Looking to buy/build 500-600 fwhp 360

Do BluePrint crate engines come with any porting on their cylinder heads? I could not get trick flow heads, so I just ported some Edelbrock cylinder heads. The carb came today, an 850 Holley. I guess I'll get 4 mpg, oh well.

    Looking to buy/build 500-600 fwhp 360

It's 91 octane but I'm at 3200 feet. I'm going to be running an MSD ignition which will allow me to easily retard the timing on a hot day, etc.

    Looking to buy/build 500-600 fwhp 360

I've been thinking about how much to worry about the compression on premium pump gas. I have a 350 chevy iron headed stock engine in a truck with 10.25 compression. Actually, it is bored 040 over so it is slightly higher. It was a 300 hp engine out of a corvette. I never ping and have run the...

    Looking to buy/build 500-600 fwhp 360

Update, I have purchased a set of Icon flat top forged pistons. The original pistons had a zero deck quench area but were slightly dished. I did not want to mill the heads 060 to get 10.1 compression. Now i'm on the other end of where I want to be. The compression ratio will be about 10.9. I can...

    Will I break this crank?

I'm not hearing too many stories of broken Scat 9000 cranks. Mostly worries about cast cranks.
  21. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

It's a little hard to estimate the horsepower at my 3200' elevation. I'm planning on 10.5 to 1, and looking at cams now. We only have 91 Octane premium. It is easy to find ethanol free premium though. There is a 10 percent horsepower penalty at this elevation, and I am not willing to mix race...

    Will I break this crank?

I knew we would reach a consensus. Now. let's talk about whether the election was stolen and was there another shooter on the grassy knoll........?:poke:
  23. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

Well, I have the Scat 9000 crank. So now I have to sell that one and buy a forged crank, so it's not a couple of hundred unless I find a buyer. I guess my question should be, has anyone broke this crank at 600 hp? So far, no one here tells me they have. And I totally agree, you might be right!
  24. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

Cool, I'm going to take my chances with the scat cast 9000. I think I read the journals and mains on the mopar cranks are bigger than the sbc. That can only help.
  25. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

That makes sense about the damper. I'll make sure to get a good one. Thanks
  26. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

And that is what I think. Take out the forces on the crank that are unbalanced parasitic and harmonic loads. Seems like compressive force from the cylinders transmitted to the crank are known,. but centrifugal forces due to poorly balanced rotating assembly at high RPM are huge. I seem to...

    Will I break this crank?

There you go, real world test engineering. Thanks for the info.
  28. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

It's not a matter of affording it. I just don't like wasting money. If it's unlikely I'll break the crank, I'll chance it. It's like my lug nut analogy. You don't want your wheel coming off, so why not use 10 studs per wheel. Because 5 studs have worked well. Why spend money that you don't have to?
  29. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

Have you seen the engine bay of a 65 barracuda?
  30. Lurch59

    Will I break this crank?

I think the cranks are thicker at the main and rod journals that the SBC cranks. That has to help. SCAT claims cranks are 25 percent stonger than stock. The name scat needs to change though. I think of crap when I hear scat.
