    No Valiant Love?

The secret of the early A Valiant is how well balanced they are. They just handle so well for the time period.

    No Valiant Love?

This 65 daily driver has a slightly rowdy 225 with a 3-speed and manual everything. Absolute base no-option model- not even flashers or windshield washers. My all time favorite driving car.

1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

I just lost one of these when the guy at the tire shop didn't replace it correctly after fixing a flat and I failed to check his handiwork. A terrible lesson to learn. I don't suppose your source has any more?

    Borgeson Power Steering Thoughts....

When I got my car I put in a PST 16:1 manual steering box and it's been the most fun car to drive I've had in a long time. On the open road. In town, not so much, and it turns out I do a lot of in town driving. Couple that with the fact that I ain't getting any younger and by gosh, I've been...

1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

This is one of my great fears when I'm out on one of my favorite local drives. Glad you and Vixen dodged that bullet!

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

I figured I'd post an update to this debacle. About two weeks after the above post I had to take Val back into the shop as she wouldn't keep running, which turned out to be a loose wire (I've just got to learn something about classic automotive mechanics!!). In the process of diagnosing and...

T5 Five speed slant six 74 Dart Sport.

Great work! I'm looking forward to hearing what it's like floor-shifting with the bench seat, because I have the same setup in a 65 Valiant and have the 5-speed/rear end work on my 10 year plan. Sure would like to keep that seat....

    1969 Daily Driver

I love this! My grandparents had this exact car new off the lot in Corvallis Oregon. I used to get so carsick in the back seat when Grandma drove the mountain roads that I had a bad reaction to that color for years. I've gotten over it.

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Mine sounds very similar to this one. Thanks. Maybe this'll get me to quit worrying and just embrace the chatter.

That could be very helpful. Thanks!

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

At the moment I'm just enjoying having the car back and am daily driving it (you know those 40 mile scenic routes to the grocery store). I'm carefully watching the tach, shifting at 3000-3500, waiting for the next broken rocker I guess. I'm a little obsessed with how loud the rockers are under...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Damn. Wish I'd seen this while it was still light out. I hadn't notice those in my visual inspection (pretty cursory one I admit). Regarding the ball and cup I've been having difficulty getting a good look at what's going on down there. I think a lot of What we're seeing is distortions from...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Looks like a stepped bolt. The cups are close to 7/16" by my measure, and I measured almost all of them. Also a sh***y picture of adjuster and cup. Shoulda taken more of this one. I ran the engine but couldn't get a shot of the rockers and keep it from stalling out at the same time. All of...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

This is the original head from the first engine I had, which blew a piston after an ill advised 150 mile race up 1-5 against a Cherokee, when I was overly excited about my new 4-barrel, intake and headers on an otherwise stock motor . That was a lot of fun, actually, despite how it ended. The...

Mine sound slower, heavier, lumpier. Where yours clops, mine clatters. Is this making sense?

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

The engine sort of chugs at idle, and moves a lot, shaking the whole car. Idle at around 750.

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Specs have been hard to track down, as the rebuild was subbed out to a supposed 'slant expert' in Texas (don't have the name). Texas built the engine with a 'performance' cam of unknown nature and I'm pretty sure everything else is stock. I'll add pushrods to my 'more info needed' list. #2...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

I'm still working on getting specs. It would probably help if I weren't mechanically illiterate:rolleyes:. Here's a few more pics under the valve cover. Not sure why the're sideways, sorry. Valves are definitely not all at the same height but a lot of them are.

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

I finally have a couple photos and a little more info. So the mechanic is sure that this break is the result of over revving leading to valve float. I've certainly gone into the 5000s some and do tend to drive fairly aggressively. Mech wants to install a rev limiter, which feels sort of like...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Car is still at the shop (they had to pull the head to fish out the broken bits) and I just got back into town after a few days away. Hoping to get over there tomorrow and at least look at it and get pics.

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

I'm beginning to have doubts about them myself but haven't had luck finding other local mechanics willing to work on classic cars. Do you have any suggestions?

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

Since the rebuild I've been struck by how loud the action under the valve cover is. I mean, it's really loud. Easily the most noticeable engine sound. Like an old typewriter or something.
