    Harmonic Balancer 130ft/lbs on Stand

Thank you everyone. I will not use a lockwasher and the engine will be broke-in inside of the car. I have thought about snugging it now while on the stand and then finishing the torque once I have it in the car. But I am afraid that I will forget. I like the note on the windshield idea! I...

    Harmonic Balancer 130ft/lbs on Stand

I want to install my harmonic balancer this weekend on my 340/420. I have the balancer installation tool and I have torqued the balancer bolt with the engine in the car a handful of times. I made a bracket that bolts to the balancer, and rests against the k-frame to keep the crank pulley from...

    Valve Spring Estimated Delivery

Anyone running into issues with valve spring delivery dates? I ordered a set of Manley springs/retainers/locators 5 weeks ago and the retainers/locators delivered in 3 days. I am now approaching week 6 for the valve spring back order and still have another 4 weeks to go. I have 4 other valve...

Green or Newer Coolant Type for Rebuild

I am thinking ahead of what type of coolant to run once I get my 340/420 back in the car this Spring. The engine was completely cleaned, and my radiator and intake were cleaned out too and sitting dry. I will be using new radiator hoses, and then the only other pieces are the heater core/hoses...

    china wall sealant??

Do you guys worry about the temperature in your garage/shop etc., when applying the sealant? This time of the year in my garage, it can be 50 or 30 degrees. I need to get my water pump housing/water pump/oil pan sealed up in the upcoming weeks and I have wondered if the temp will affect the...

    Cam Degree Question

I finally got around to degreeing the cam today. (109 installed at 105 per cam card) I first chose the 3A option and it came in as 102.5. Then I chose the 2A and it came in at 106. I’m good with that. Thanks everyone

    SB Stroker Intake Choices

For discussion, this is the X-celerator with the Mr Gasket 5840 gaskets. There is a lot of meat left in this intake.

    SB Stroker Intake Choices

Thanks for the confirmation! This definitely moves the 360-3R off the table for me.

    SB Stroker Intake Choices

I agree that it is a mismatch combo, but I am going to work on that over the next year or so. This is a numbers matching 340 car that I have had for 23 years. I lost the crank about two years ago and I am just now getting it back together. The heads are ported Sidewinders (280cfm @ .550”). I...

    SB Stroker Intake Choices

I have started assembling my 340/420 and I need to start deciding on which intake to run. I currently have the following two intakes: Non-Airgap RPM Weiand X-celerator (small single plane) I have gasket matched both of these to the same intake gaskets, and the depth of the match is about the...

Choosing the right stroke for a 340

""the longer the stroke the more displacement BUT also the increased risk of interference on the assembly."" My 340 now has 4.00" stroke and a 4.090" bore. The crank and rods are from K1, and my machine shop had to clearance around the rod bolts (ARP 2000-10) which can be seen in the attached...

    Cam Degree Question

I also followed these instructions for the timing set. I started dot-to-dot as shown and now I will follow the second picture to advance the cam 4 degrees.

    Cam Degree Question

My instructions said to get #1 at TDC and have the sprockets dot-dot (cam at 6:00 and crank sprocket at 12:00). Thanks!

    Cam Degree Question

I just installed my cam and with the sprockets at Dot-To-Dot, the centerline comes out at 109 which matches the cam card separation angle. The card says to degree it in at 105. Do I just advance the cam sprocket 2 degrees and check the centerline again? Thanks!

Valve Spring Pressure Loss After Break-In

I am now looking into a couple of the Comp springs (985 & 925) instead of the Isky's (6105SP & 8005SP/8005A) that I have been looking up. The Iskys are taller springs and they are showing .140" or more clearance to coil bind at my max lift range. I believe that I can get the two Comps mentioned...

Valve Spring Pressure Loss After Break-In

I will plan on having enough spring/shims to be able to hit the upper range that I was given as a minimum, and maybe stay slightly higher just in case the springs lose a little after a few heat cycles. Thanks everyone!

Valve Spring Pressure Loss After Break-In

The 14-16lbs reference puts me in or knocks me out of the 145-150 & the 350-360 ranges. I know that I am being anal about it, but if I shim for the ranges and the springs do lose tension, then I am under the range. If I compensate for the 10% loss and they don't lose, then I am over the ranges...

Valve Spring Pressure Loss After Break-In

I have my cam on order, and I have my recommended spring specs (145-150lbs & 350-360lbs). I have my springs chosen (“ISKY” 6105-SP) and now I am trying to dial in my installed height (on paper, as I will check my actual lifts after the cam install). I was told by the cam company that the new...

    My 340/420 Stroker Build

Cam Update: I had a few phone calls this morning with Bullet, and I am going with a solid flat tappet. The cam that I pulled out of this block was a 234/238 SFT, so I might be able to reuse some of the valvetrain. This cam specs out as a 252/256 @ .050, .365"/.365" lobes, 109 to be installed at...
