Can a 7.25 be upgraded with spindles to a large bolt pattern? Or, is the only solution to go with a 8.75?

Cleaning up the interior before new carpet goes in, I've noticed that some of the black body-panel caulk is missing under the back seats, causing a hole in the floor (no rust). What should I use to seal where the caulk used to be? Thanks!
