    91 Octane in a 340?

Yes it's helpful, we get 95 degrees in summer here aswell, than -40 in winter, and no thats not a typo lol. I guess even if it doesn't ping when its cooler, it might when its that hot outside. I think I will still measure cylinder pressure though. Though it looks like the car is already set at...

    91 Octane in a 340?

Really good posts guys, thanks. I will start with measuring the PSI. So you are saying at my elevation i will run 10 PSI lower than at sea level?

    91 Octane in a 340?

I guess I’m concerned that I will drive and damage the engine without noticing it. Though it sounds like you can definitely feel pinging, its pretty hard to ignore.

    91 Octane in a 340?

Cool, I will purchase a pressure gauge, I should have one handy anyways.

    91 Octane in a 340?

The previous owner was far more knowledgeable and experienced than me, he said he ran 91 octane though he did not drive/own the car much before he sold it. He said it should scream on 94, but realistically I understand that if the car doesn't need it, it won't run any different and it's just a...

    91 Octane in a 340?

Hmm, do you feel it at all? Or is it a simple question of you cannot miss it? Sorry I was wrong about the carb, its actually a 650 CFM AVS2

    91 Octane in a 340?

Im wondering if I can run 91 octane, so far I've just been running 94 but it's expensive and harder to find in my area. The engine is mostly stock from what I understand, so 10.5: 1 pistons pre 1971 with X heads. Though im not sure of the cam but I believe it's a COMP XE284 high lift but might...

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Update guys, I used my timing light and the tach is out. The RPMS, im getting are right in line with what would be expected for 3.73 gears. I did pop my head up there but can't really see anything, even if I used a scope camera there is no way I can reach it if there was a switch back there...

Good Good idea, I actually have one.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

I knew I have limited slip before, the two black lines behind me told me . I was actually told its a Detroit locker since the rear end was rebuilt. I actually had a Detroit locker on my old 80 Volare Roadrunner aswell, when it was new the tires would chirp when turning. It managed to break...

Haha sorry you're right, I own all mopars but really im brand agnostic.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Great idea, I will give it a shot. At the end of the day a working tach is not important. Though it's nice when you have one to make sure it works. I also have a digital timing light that reads RPMS, so I can also compare the tach to that. My 80 roadrunner did not have a tach, either does my...

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

OK so tried this, i did two wheel turns and came up with around 7.5. So that should basically be 3.73, so i guess the tach is out.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

The rear end was rebuilt and changed, it has a true POSI now To what I’m told is 3.73.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

I believe it’s an OEM reconditioned part as it was $1400, apparently i would have to drop the steering column to pull the cluster without scratching it accordingly to the previous owner.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Yeah likely not 4000, though i drive a diesel on daily basis so i have nothing to compare to.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Yup thats about right based on the calculators I've used.
  18. T

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

yes! so its the tach? The RPM calculator said I should be around 3200 RPM. Should I pull the cluster and check the back?

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

One would think but it definitely does not run like it has 4.30 gears. I had 3.91's in my velar roadrunner with a 360 and 727 transmission so I have an idea of how gears like this should feel.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Im assuming I should pull off the cluster to get to it? There sounds like it could be the case, the previous owner bought a new cluster and installed it so it's very likely he didn't know which switch to select.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Definitely not slipping, it shifts pretty hard due to the stage 2 shift kit.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Sorry, they are very close to stock size, 25". So 235/60/R14 in the back.

Revving 4000 rpms on the highway

Hey Guys, pickuped up a 70 Dart swinger 340. It's supposed to be 3.73 gears which feels about right ( I had a 3.91, 360, TF 727 Auto before). For some reason the tach is reading 4000 RPMs at 62MPH, I verified the speedometer is correct with a GPS app. Should I not be revving around 3200 rpms? Is...
