I suppose a guy could just make new tabs out of the appropriate gauge brass and solder them onto the rivets on the switch?

Yes, it is variable speed and the shaft rotates. The issue with the switch is 4 or 5 of the wiring harness plug tabs have broken off. Can you buy new tabs?

So a guy could use a 318 crank and the 273 rods and domed pistons and it would be exactly the same?

So in my research it shows that the throw is different on a 318 crank than on my forged 273 crank. Is that correct?

People have told me that a cast 318 crank would fit, but might create issues in regards to balancing, etc because the rods and pistons are different from a size and weight perspective than 318 stuff which could lead to issues.

An update on the front brake refresh. I have both calipers fully torn down and cleaned. The grease trick worked well to get the pistons out and things came apart fairly easily. So the result is that I have a hint of pitting on 3 pistons, and 5 that are perfect, and the caliper bores look great...
