    Proform 950 main body swap

I read several places now that the 950 holley isnt really a 950, that its more like an 830. It does have smaller venturis and bore than an 850 according to the holley manual I have. They say that it is flowed differently and it rating is more optimistic? I was thinking of jumping ahead of the...

    Proform 950 main body swap

446 with stock edelbrocks, m1 intake 13:1 compression with forged Ross pistons, steel crank, H-beams, 1/2 inch studs in main bearings, Crane roller 630 lift with 268 & 278 at .050 duration. 3400lb 70 Dart with me in it, 456 gear, Pro-trans with 3500 converter, leaving on the footbrake from 2000...

Gear Vendors in but big engine problems

I thought it was bad when Port Flow Development put short pushrods in my 440 and it trashed my Comp rockers. He gave me chinese junk to fill in until my Comps were fixed and then decided F me. He didn't even respond to the Better Business Bureau. Now I have to drive 50 miles to file in small...

    Proform 950 main body swap

Where do you go to get a carb wet flowed? Am I just jerking myself around playing with these bodies, or should I just buy a bad -*** new carb. I read alot about everyone needing more carb, but I've got a stock eliminator friend who thinks my 440 is overcarbed with an old 4781 850 because his...

    Proform 950 main body swap

Anyone tried using the Proform 950 body on an 850dp (4781)? The tech line for them said that they use the same baseplate but the 950 holley has 1 11/16 bore and the 850 has 1 3/4. Wont the 850 make more power no matter what they call it - bigger is better isnt it? I got the 950 body and set it...

    2bbl vs Thermoquad

If driven without opening the secondaries, the T-quad would probably give better economy. The primary blades are smaller on it than on the 2 bbl.

    ok it runs but poorly??

Put a vacuum gauge on it - if the chain is off or its out of time the reading will be low(look in an old Chiltons manual and they have several pages of vacuum readings and what they mean.) It's very old school but a great diagnostic tool. Also, I chased my tail on a car that did the same thing...

    How will this carb work?

I've got a 13:1 domed piston 446 with stock Edelbrock heads, a roller cam .630-.630 with 268 & 278 at .050, Mopar M1 single plane intake, going into a 70 Dart with 4:56 and 29" tires for drag racing only. I'm out of money cause I just bought a new Harley and I only have an 800 DP thats been...

    Milodon oil pans

I've got a 1970 Dart with a slant six K member and Schumacher mounts. What drag race oil pan will work with a 440 and no modification. My stock pan needed hammering to clear the drag link and I don't want to hammer on a new Milodon drag pan.

    Holley HP carb questions

My engine builder recommended a new HP 950 carb for my new roller 440. I've read on two different sites that these carbs don't flow what they're rated at. ( the 950 is supposed to be like an 830 and the 1000 an 870). I'm told that these carbs are tested at 2.06" instead of the industry standard...

    Eagle / rpm rods

Anyone used these rods? And are they good to 700 or 800 horse like they say, or would I be better off with my six pack rods? My 13:1 roller 440 should be around 600 horse, but I'm sure I'll want more.

    451 or 440?

Thanks for the info. My buddy swears by the 451 but he was unable to quantify the advantages. I NEED one of these.

    451 or 440?

Why is a 451 so much better than a 440? I would have to pay a machine shop to put together a 451 ( to feel safe ) but a 440 would be simple in comparison. But I'm told the 451 will make much more power even if the compression ratio and cam are the same. Right, wrong or other?

    Anyone tried this cam?

Absolutely! If it don't work, throw money at the problem. This may be my excuse for the 12.5:1 forged popups with the huge valve reliefs. Got a friend at work on my tail that just bought a cheater prostock cam. Gotta beat him.

    Anyone tried this cam?

Yea, I've got a 5cc valve trough and .220 clearance with a .484 cam. If it don't fit I'll be making eyebrow grooves in the pistons. IT'S GOIN IN!!! Either force or persuasion.

    Anyone tried this cam?

I just ordered a comp cams solid .520 in .540 ex with 244 + 252 at .050. xs282. Just curious what it was run in and how well it performed.

    Well.....it's official.....

what were your clearances and tell us about that voodoo sounding camshaft. what are the specs and what is it in?

    Rudimentary valve clearance question.

My back is killing me from the repeated off and on of the heads, the claying, the turning it over again and again, and my head hurts. I think it would have been easier to pull the engine and take it back to the machine shop.

    Carb spacers with air gap

I put a one inch open spacer on at the track and picked up .20 and felt a difference. Worth the hood clearance issue to me.

    Rudimentary valve clearance question.

My first description definately was not right but since then I've done the same thing that 383 man described, spun it over and pushed the valve in until they touched the piston all the way around the overlap and lift period.

    Rudimentary valve clearance question.

I am considering the comp cams xe solid .520 and .540 with 244 and 252 or the .525 .525 with 248 248. Yes I'm using a .040 gasket because of zero deck and not a steel shim. These cams were also what the comp techline recommended. I guess it's a 119.95 gamble, but I'm pretty sure of my readings...

    Solid cam questions.

I'm checking my clearances without the .040 head gasket and the heads will be cut at about .043 so its a wash. I'm calculation the into the clearances and I have .220-.230 on both.

    Rudimentary valve clearance question.

Yea, a couple people have mentioned that duration will kill you quicker than lift. I was also thinking I was safe in the range you listed, but I play it safe and am considering around .540 or .550 with not too much more duration than the .484 cam. I will only have 10.1 compression after decking...

    Rudimentary valve clearance question.

So I measured my piston to valve clearance with the only way that made me feel sure. I rotated the engine a couple of degrees at a time and used a depth mic to see how much it took to tap the piston with the checking springs installed . I had .220 intake and .230 exhaust with the new Edelbrocks...

    383 B block

The 67 had the lowest output also because of the valve sizes 2.08 and 1.60 not 1.74 like the newer heads. Also the exhaust side ports are very restrictive compared to all of the newer heads - (Have a pair and How to make power with Mopar book says so also.)

    Solid cam questions.

How did you know ahead of time that the cam would have enough piston to valve clearance? I want to get a new cam but I don't want to buy one and go ooooooops. I don't really have enough compression right now for a roller. (only going to be 9.1:1 with the new Edelbrocks) But what do you think...
