if you can roll the car around with it in park you need to adjust the shift linkage, the converter has nothing to do with park. I would not bypass the starter relay because if the car is in reverse or drive it will take off once you have it started and the converter picks up the fluid.

UH ... you need to take the front pump assembly out next. The snap ring for the output shaft is inside all of those parts that are still in the case ... you can id the year of the tranny by looking at the casting date on the valve body ...

there should ony be .008 to .010 of play between the pinion and ring gear if it is new, up to .025 if they are used ... judging the back lash from the drive shaft is not accurate ... you will need to pull the cover or the chunk to measure it properly

I agree ... I do not fill the converter because I do not want to have to clean up a quart of tranny fluid from where it leaked out while i was trying to index it in the tranny ...
