    Driveshaft Length

Can anyone tell me if the driveshaft is the same length whether you are using an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear axle. If not, what's the difference in measurement? Thanks.....

    Converter ID 904 vs 727

Thank you brother, the converter I'm looking at has a hub less than 1.5", so I assume it's a 904.

    Converter ID 904 vs 727

Can someone give me the skinny on how to tell if a converter is for a 904 or 727? The second question would be does Lock up vs. Non lock up make any difference. Thanks guys...

    Dodge Pickup Cable Kickdown Swap

I was reading on slantsix.org about guys having trouble going from a 1 barrel to super six because the kickdown linkages are different, and nobody thinks to take that when they source the 2 barrel intake and carb. One dude offered a great solution. He said mid 90s Dodge pickups used an...

Lock-up to Non Lock-Up Are the Flex Plates Different

If I stick the bolt through the flex plate, it will not get deep enough into the TQ tab to get on the threads. I have to pry just a hair on the bottom of the TQ to get the bolt to start threading. The TQ does spin freely with just finger pressure...

Lock-up to Non Lock-Up Are the Flex Plates Different

I had a previous thread about the removal of a burnt 904 from my 87 D100. I picked up another 904 from a running 73 Dart ($60), and I'm putting it in. I have a few bolts in the bellhousing, and I'm now on to the torque converter. My concern is there seems to be a lot of space between the flex...

Trying to limit my 904 ignorance and stupidity

Sorry man, I thought the +4 was better for any application. It doesn't seem to be as thick as what I remember dexron being.

Trying to limit my 904 ignorance and stupidity

I did blow out the cooler lines to get as much burnt fluid as I could out of it, and I drained as much as I could out of the converter and put almost a whole quart in it before I put it on the input shaft. I wonder if maybe the transmission is a lock up and the converter is not, or vice versa...

Trying to limit my 904 ignorance and stupidity

Here's the short course: 1. Bought an 87 slant 6 D100 with a bad trans - no 1st gear, fluid close to black....it moved just enough to get off the trailer and into the driveway. 2. Bought a 904 from another truck off craigslist from a seller I had bought from before with good success. It was...

    Tail Shaft Seal Boot Question

I took out my bad 904 transmission and I'm getting things ready to try to put the replacement in, and I notice the old transmission has the extension housing seal with the rubber boot, and the replacement has a fairly new seal but no boot. Do I need to halt progress and get a new seal with the...

    904 727 interchange

    This is some crazy stuff man....looking back, I had a 74 B200 shorty van with a slant and no power steering, but a 727. Then an 84 D150 with a slant, AC, power steering, and a 727, then an 85 D150 with a 318 and 727, and finally a 90 D150 with a 318 and whatever the OD trans is.......so I was 3...

    904 727 interchange

I'm pretty sure all slant six full size pickups and vans came with a 727....which makes sense given the weight they'd be pulling..... Thanks for the input fellas.....I'll get it out and do a side by side comparison... the kickdown lever I can swap... the driveshaft is another story...

    904 727 interchange

I bought an 87 pickup with a slant six and a bad 727. Looked all over and finally found an alleged good used one for $100. Started taking the old trans out this afternoon, and after getting the torque converter bolts out I realize it's a 904, not a 727. Am I gonna be in trouble in regard to...

    /6 torque converter with V8

Brother, CVC Converters shows a high stall for the 904 that fits both slant 6 and 318 engines. Here's the link to the catalog. Consolidated Vehicle Converters - CVC-2015-Catalog You just have to make sure you get the right one lock-up vs non lock up. If you go to the distributor page on...

    727 Kickdown

    I'm fixin' to find out....

    727 Kickdown

I'll post how it goes....the linkage is only $10 according to their price sheet, so I can't go too wrong. I'm trying to convince myself the body doesn't matter, it's runs from carb to back of the head to trans. You're right, that board is crazy, and after seeing that I would never try to piece...

    727 Kickdown

Yeah brother, I read that before I posted the question. The only changes I'm making are I found a nice set of 2.02 heads, HP manifolds, and an NOS thermoquad. Beyond that maybe a Performer intake will be about all I'll do. it's a convertible, so I don't need to go crazy on the motor. It'll...

    727 Kickdown

I've been reading about the myriad of kickdown combinations that came with our cars. It seems the cable solution is best since it's adjustable. Problem is I want to keep it looking stock. My local Upullit has an 87 Dodge 3/4 Pickup with a stock intake and 4 barrel. Will that work in my 67...

Please refresh my memory on tranny interchange

I found a really nice 87 D100 with a slant and a bad 727. I'd love it to have it for dump runs and to haul my kayaks. Can I use the 904 I have from a 68 or so Valiant? I wasn't sure if I'd run into tail shaft problems, or possibly need to swap the input shaft from the driveshafts. I...

Rear Axle Question - What would you do?

The base info is 67 Barracuda convertible, very mild 340 with 2.02 heads, a Perfomer and thermoquad. It'll mostly be used for rides to the beach (100 miles each way). I'm struggling with coming to a conclusion with the rear axle. Can you tell me what would be the best of the following 3...

Need Info on Pinion Seal Replacement

Hey guys, I'd appreciate it if someone could guide me through the cogent points of replacing the pinion seal on my 7 1/4 sure grip rear. I suppose the first question is do I need to put a prybar in the guts somewhere to keep the pinion from spinning while I remove the bolt? Second, do i need a...

    727 Tail Shaft Question

I found an 83 van in my local pick a part yard that has a small block and a 727. The question is if I pick it up for a future project, will I eventually need to find a different tail shaft since it's in a truck, or will it bolt up okay for use in my 67 cuda? thanks guys.... Ken in Pa.

    Schumacher mount question

I have a 67 Cuda with a slant 6. If I use the Schumacher mounts, do I need any other pieces to slide my 340 into the slant 6 K frame? I thought I had read somewhere that I need a V8 drag link, or could have oil pan issues. thanks for any advice you can offer. Ken in Pa.

Can someone educate me on 4-speeds

I was thinking of starting to collect some parts for a future small block 4 speed project. My local U-pick it yardhas a mid 70's pickup with a V8 and a 4 speed. It got me to thinking. 1. How can I tell if this 4 speed has a granny low gear? 2. If it does, is it completely unusable for a...

    Shortening a rear end

Hey guys, need some advice in regard to rear end. The 8 3/4 A body rears are geting pretty expensive, and I need to swap to big bolt pattern anyway. My local U-pull it has a 90 or so Dodge pickup with a sure grip rear right in the gear range I need (I believe it was 3.21 or thereabouts). How...
