    Rookie Mistake...

I had a bad experience collecting a small claims judgement years ago on a shop that rebuilt my torqueflite incorrectly. The judge allowed him to pay me off in installments of $25 per month. It took forever!

I need schooling - old vs. new engines

Years ago Tony Bischoff built me a long block 5.7 based 414 stroker for racing. Last year I had to replace the block after 8 years of bracket racing it due to a crack. Block at the junkyard cost me $200 and still had crosshatch. Gen III parts are getting cheaper and much more readily available.

I need schooling - old vs. new engines

From the cam card: 1st of all it says "special grind" on the card. Comp may only sell it to B.E.S. who can turn around and sell it to me. Part # 112-000-11 Lift- Intake .605 Exhaust .605 Duration @.006- Intake 297 Exhaust 305 Duration @.050- Intake 247 Exhaust 254 113 center line Lobe...

I need schooling - old vs. new engines

I joined this conversation to use my racing motor as an example of idle characteristics. I wasn't trying to say Gen III was better than everything else. There used to be a guy at my local track that had a brown '70 Duster with a built small block that would beat me every time. In my situation...

I need schooling - old vs. new engines

All I know about the heads are they are Eagle heads that were sent to B.E.S. Racing engines in Indiana and they applied the same magic to them that they did to their engine masters challenge motors that made over 700hp. I also used them for advice on the cam, pistons, rings, crank, bearings...

Sad to see but will happen to most us all

I'm 62 and will keep drag racing as long as my health and reaction time permits it. When I can't cut a light anymore I will probably install a transbrake and hope that will help me to keep going rounds for a few more years.

I need schooling - old vs. new engines

My gen III is all motor and makes somewhere between 650 and 700 HP. It has the most radical race cam Comp makes for that motor and it doesn't really idle that lumpy. I don't have my hands on the cam specs right now but I think you are spot on with the LSA at 114. I do idle it quite high for...

How nice would high octane gas be?

I've seen quite a few guys at the track running on e-85, they say they need to watch out for corrosion, other than that they seem happy with it. I have to run 110 on my 12:5 to 1 race motor and it costs $10.00 per gallon around here. I was in college in Nebraska in the mid 80's when a few...

Not real sure, I just know that if I go to an NHRA track they have a separate class.

    nhra

Not around here unfortunately. The closest tracks to me are IHRA and they let motorcycles race with the cars. Makes it impossible to race the stripe. Would be boring to watch IMO. Ennis has a Mopar only meet next week with footbrake classes, but 60% chance of rain.....

High quality, mopar specific engine shops

BES Racing Engines. Google it. Not Mopar specific, but his Mopar motors are winning all kinds of engine build awards. Just outside of Cincinnati in Indiana.

Wish you had your high school car back?

In April of my Senior year (1978 ) I found a 68 Charger R/T in a junkyard with a blown Transmission (727 TF). Someone had put a hell of a cam in the 440 and I don't know what else. They sold it to me for $200 because they couldn't find the title. I had to apply for a resurrected title. I put...

My towing question leaving early Friday

If you want to live through this and not tear up your Dakota, you need to rent a flatbed trailer with brakes and a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup setup for towing. Yes it will cost a lot, but it's the right way to go there aren't any good shortcuts.

    Sellin a car = bullshit

Years ago, I advertised a car for sale in the paper, then after several people looked at it but didn't want it, I changed my mind, cancelled the ad and kept the car. 2 weeks later I'm out of town on business and one of the lookers shows up unannounced with cash and tells my wife "we'll take...

What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

    1. Change jets-tried to jet down for 100+ weather, didn't like the results, going to change back to original jet size. 2. Get a window net and get the mounting kit welded in before Friday. It seems that someone from IHRA came to the track last weekend and told them that they are not enforcing...

Married guys - car budgets and honesty

When we were married 36 years ago, we agreed that my money and her money would be OUR money. We had one bank account and still do. Of course we didn't have 2 nickels to rub together back then. We drove used cars until we could afford to buy new ones, and we've always discussed large purchases...

2014 Diesel 1500 Ram wins MT truck of the year

Just bought a 2014 RAM 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. I'll be using it to tow about 7500 lbs of trailer and race car. I'm hoping it gets decent mpg when towing, my 2000 RAM got about 7.5 mpg.

    Anybody have a Chrysler 200?

I had a rental one for the last month while my Challenger sat at the dealer waiting for a part. It was a 2013 base model 4 banger. It got 26 MPG on mostly hwy driving (not too impressive) and 19mpg on E-85. Big trunk, just would have liked better MPG.
