Don't know if its even possible, but could the fan be on the wrong side of the clutch? Aluminum pump in place of an iron? Mounts on the wrong side of the block ears? Just tossing ideas out for ya:thumbsup:

    318 DQ's

I had that same cam in my 63 Valiant in a 318, 3:23 and 4spd. The motor was stock except for the cam, intake (Edelbrock performer) and carb(Holley 600). This thing was a dog below about 3,000 but then woke up all the way to about 4,000. Couldn't get it to run right, to rich and sputtered. It was...

Why isn’t fuel going to the carb?

My uncle had a Chevy truck. Driving down the raod, it died. Got it home and wasn't getting any fuel to the carb. Pull the fuel pump, replaced it and still no fuel. My dad looks in at the dash and says "Is your gauge working"?. Uncle says "Yeah, why?". Its on empty. Watching 1 of these car...

    Mopar 340 intake gasket replacement

Take the dowels out. When you tighten the intake down, you could crack the intake (don't ask how I know). Don't worry about the exhaust crossover, although it may cause the intake to discolor in that area. I'm not sure if you can or if it makes a difference, but the gasket sets usually comes...

New lifters on a used cam

The way I always understood it was New cam, New lifters Old cam, New lifters but never New cam, Old lifters. Is this still the conventional thinking?

What do you think of gear drives ?

Gears allow more accurate timing. They also transmit more harmonics to the valve train then chains. Depending on which set you get, they are loud, almost supercharger whine loud. Some people put them on just for that reason. I would like to run a Jesel belt drive setup. Just to find away to...

sb 360 - one head is hotter than other - What may be happening?

If the intake is changed, then the dowel pins might still be in holding the intake up just a bit. This would cause a leak at the intake.

1972 340: engine oil smells like gas

Sounds like its not getting up to temp and not being able to evaporate the gas vapors. That, or your dumping fuel past the rings. I once read that if a car is going to sit, its best to change the oil and let it sit, than to keep starting it and only letting it run a few minutes. It contaminates...

    need carb ideas

You need to take a step back and go to basics. You need to get the timing checked, then set the idle and the mixture. Until you check timing, your not doing anything but throwing parts. Have to start at a baseline and work from there.

    Engine Rebuilding Lessons?

What about a local community college? I took a few classes while I had the time. Auto ,electronics, transmissions and engines. All taught by ASE master mechanics. After the engine class, I was asked to be the T/A for the next year. Unfortunately I moved. I took these classes in my early 30's. I...

machine shop vs parts counter(forged vs kb)

I guess I should have mentioned that the Turbo cars were 4cyl and the Supercharged were V6. The turbo cars had an Iron block and heads wherer the V6 had Iron block aluminum heads. I ran the Turbos to 18lbs boost daily on the street and with good gas to 24lbs no problems. The v6 at 15lbs can pop...

machine shop vs parts counter(forged vs kb)

Whats the general feeling of hypereutectic pistons? Better then cast, not as good as forged? I find it funny that the Turbocharged Fords from the 80s used Forged up until the end, but the Supercharged Thunderbirds went Hypereutectic starting in 89. The Turbo cars used 8.0:1 and the SC cars went...

machine shop vs parts counter(forged vs kb)

I would take the word of a reputable machine shop over the word of a parts jockey. Who has more "real world" experience with these pistons? Who is going to be the 1 replacing parts if they are wrong? Who's reputaion is on the line? That, and I've been the parts jockey, and I've seen alot of...

    installing intake

To add as well, if you haven't already done so, you may want to grind off the dowel pins at the end of the intake. I found out the hard way what happens. I am now looking for a new intake as the old eddy performer is cracked about 2". Which is kind of ok as I am in need of something a little...
