    91 Octane in a 340?

My 69' 340 was rebuilt to stock specs, all original.91 octane nebraska gas and the engine runs fine, no ping. however for fun, I mix 2 gallons of 108 in the tank every once in a while,,just for entertainment. That Dart loves that!( 8.00 per gallon)

    340 or 360?

I have the 56 Savoy with the 277 and it is a sweetheart, all 160 horses of it! I use a 96 ram 360 for my driver now, and in the 80's to 1996 I probably put 100k miles on numerous cordobas and doge Magnums, as they were our family cars. The 360 is a great engine, and does a good job with the...

    340 or 360?

I do also own a 69 340 GTS, and all I can say is when driving it I laugh and giggle all the way. it is a blast to drive, revvs like crazy, and has the energy of a golden retriever that was let loose after being locked up all day!

    340 or 360?

assholes have the common sense to see it is all about how much money goes in, and what it is worth when your done. If you don't care, great.but a cast crank 360 has the same value as any run of the mill 350 chevy engine. It works for what it is, but that it is all it is. A guy finds an original...

    340 or 360?

I agree the 273 is also a great engine, and when that 340 is on that engine stand, five people will want that 340, to 1 person wanting the 360'

    340 or 360?

bare 340 block, 500-800 360 100 bucks, maybe. common sense dictates invest in what goes up in value, not flat value. a rebuilt 340 on an engine stand is $ 4,000,,,,or more. 360 maybe half.if you are lucky,,,,

I don't like cast crank engines. they look funny in pre 72 model cars. definitely more funny in pre 70- model cars. sorry I am old school.

Slant 6 to 340 Engine Swap in 69' Dart

sorry, I am old school, and go original only. When I put mine together I use only original equipment. So my advice goes that way, I'm not saying the other way is wrong, just not original. I bought some aftermarket mounts once to Install a crate 426 Hemi in a 67 440 GTX. what a joke, the engine...

Slant 6 to 340 Engine Swap in 69' Dart

you need a V8 K member, with 340 motor mounts, Radiator, then all the other V8 stuff. That compressor won't hook up either, you need a V8 style. A 727 was original, but I am building a stout 904 for mine, lots to consider with the transition. also, if you have 9 inch brakes, they have to go...

Today, dollar for dollar, is the 318 faster than the 340 ???

I feel that there are too many variables to compare here. The 340 block is better, the crank is better. overall the engine is stronger and better built. Not that the 318 isn' t a great engine, but it was installed in a few million cars and was quite generic. Every 340 in the world came heavy...

Today, dollar for dollar, is the 318 faster than the 340 ???

I agree you can put money into any engine and make it go be it chevy ford or dodge, and i have several 318 engine cars that run very well. but I am old school and drove the 340' in the day, and I still have one. The saying in 1970 was a dummy can drive a 340 and win 90% of the time. But it...

all well and good,But I have five 318 engines sitting here that I would love to unload on someone. But There is a waiting list should I decide to sell the 340 engines.

    273 Pistons

by then the 340 was the big product on the line. it was hell finding rings for that 273 engine as well. I love the 273, as during all the years I drove one, I got minimum 18 city. 25 once going to Phoenix in a 69 Dart custom. Plenty of power, with slant six economy. they were idiots to...

    273 Pistons

1969.I think the book shows up to 67 only because that was the last year for the HP version, which was 10.5 or so compression. the two barrel was 9.0 I believe I presently own a 1969 with the 273, and rebuilt it in 2012. I needed to go .030 over, as the original pistons were.020 over and I had...

Ah yes, I did the same! I love the sound of that engine and exhaust bone stock original. Mine is down to the bone stock with 300 since total rebuild. It sort of like a 1973 900 Z-1 Kawasaki: subtle and quiet at an idle, but rev it up, and BYE BYE!

This is as good a time to say as any, and I said it first! In order to minimize the suffering any have endured while owning a 340, they can call me and I will do my best to take it off their hands! I guess I'm a masochist!

The 1968 dart 340 was rated at 275 horspower for one reason. If it was rated at 280, the Car Insurance nearly doubled. The same goes with B bodies. my Buddy wanted a new 68' Charger really badly. It is understandable that after 50 years most everyone here talks about what the 340 could be,not what it was. As a factory new street car, it was considered to be a very quick car. Most people did not own or drive them, but drove 318 furys or 283 Impalas. Also, all the nostalgia and pumped up...

340/360 exhaust manifolds A,B,C,E bodies the same ?

The 71 models don't wrap around, they look more like the 318 version. I would use the 360 manifolds and custom exhaust. the engine will run fine, and it is cheaper. The 68-70 340 was a 10:5 compression, the 71 on was 9:5, so the performance was ebbing anyway.
