what parts to get for a 318??

Second this. I saw that because it's pretty much identical to what I'm building!

    Alloy Heads

These looks interesting. Finally us guys down here maybe get something cheap!

318 with big valved or 340/360 heads

Thanks for all the advice guys, lots to read and understand! The 318 I'm building for the car over here <--- will be with the LA-X heads and 2.02/1.6 valves since I've had them for a few years sitting in boxes waiting. They will have the KB167 flat tops and will deck the block. I'm hoping I...

318 with big valved or 340/360 heads

The more I'm reading and learning on here (which is a lot) I'm getting the understanding that using 340/360 heads or any heads with 2.02/1.6 valves is too much for a 318. Now I'm already planning on putting a set of LA-X heads with 2.02/1.6 onto a 318 (was originally building a 360) I will...

Who wants a mopar turbo kit?!?!

Interesting. Depending what the cost would be, I'd still consider the kit and get the downpipe or another modified to fit. I wonder if I could just have the top tube facing the other way (away from the master and steering box for us down here). Any rough idea what the cost will be?

Who wants a mopar turbo kit?!?!

Love this but wonder how I'd go putting it in to a R/H drive car.

    318 Build

No chance I'll be putting the motor together but I'll definitely let the engine builder know incase he hasn't dealt with the KB pistons. I have HV melling oil pump but I've read that they aren't required and best to use a standard one. Would I be better off with a standard oil pump and get...

Engine dyno software. Anything good on the Internet?

I wish there was one that works on a Mac, still haven't found anything yet.

    318 Build

Just ordered myself the XE268H frosty so I'll save the Thumpr Cam maybe for next motor. Nice build with the VC, cool looking car. Judging by your numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if I make 380hp.

    318 Build

One more question guys as I know stuff all compared to you guys about this stuff but how much do you think that Camquest has overestimated the power I should expect. From the reading up I don't think I would make 400hp or over as this suggest.

    Best place to buy parts

Thanks for all the help guys. Bought virtually everything from summit coming with a friends container so we'll see how we go. I may just send the rockers over direct though.

    Best place to buy parts

My stuff is going in a container, does it make a difference then if its under or over $1000?

    318 Build

I won't be building the motor, I'll be giving the torque plate to the engine builder as he doesnt have a small block chrysler one. He's dropping the price since I am giving him this and in the future I'll have at least another small block to build so it's beneficially for me too. I keep...

    318 Build

OK guys, ready to buy everything and decided to get new rods while I'm at it. I'm considering going to 3.55 diff gears and I'll wait till everything is built till I decide on the stall speed but it'll be between 22-2500rpm. What sort of power do you guys think I'd be looking at making with the...

    Best place to buy parts

Hi guys, Purchasing most of my parts for my 318 build and was just wondering where most of you guys buy your parts. Most of us down here buy stuff from Summit and was wondering if there is a place you guys recommend for service and price. Cheers, Rosco

    318 Build

Thanks for the advice and help guys. Looks like I'm going to go with the XE268 with Hughes 1.6 Rockers, as from what I've read up on here, they are best to use with the RHS heads. Would standard rods hold up for a build like this?

    318 Build

Same tyres as currently, 207/70/14. The heads have had some work done but don't have the figures on me. From memory when I had someone flow them here they said they were good till @500 and died a little because of the springs. I'll be buying a new converter although I don't want anything much...

    318 Build

Hi Guys, I posted years back about a 360 build I was going to do but for various reason didn't happen but I'm almost at the stage where I'm ready to rebuild my original 318. I've already purchased a majority of the parts but still need, pistons, cam/lifters and rockers to name the main...

    360 Build ... another one

Unfortunately its just a block and bottom end. Taking the 318 out of my car and put a 360 in that was spare as it would make 400hp easer than the 318 would with a standard stroke. I'll probably be using a RPM Air-Gap since in the future I may go for more power and if it is better than the...

    360 Build ... another one

I'll be honest not overly fussed, why do you ask? Is an MSD E-Curve dizzy good for the job? I like the idea of being able to set a rev limiter on it. Sorry for any stupid question, new to the idea of building an engine.

    360 Build ... another one

Cheers guys. Not sure on tyre size as yet, currently got stock 14 inch rims and tyres on the car but that might change. I'll probably use a 23-2600 converter depending of course on the cam. The two cams I had in mind were (both Comp Cams) the XE274H and the PP280H which I think you mentioned...

    360 Build ... another one

Hi guys, New to the forum and was after some help/opinions. Looking at building a 360 with around 400hp at the fly but don't want anything that would be a pig to drive. What will I need to make this sort of power and is it possible? Looking at the moment at using the RHS heads from a...
