    that fluctuation indicates a faulty regulator, but the ammeter connections are another problem altogether.

    That hot wire is grounding on the gauge cluster. there are supposed to be insulator grommets separating the wire from the steel cluster. all I see is disintegrated grommets.The gauge is also likely toast.

    12+ in, 5 out. Any more fried the condenser in the day. If it smokes, it is being too much of a resistor.

    My 70' radio has a rotating knob left to right. The 69' is a vertical thumbwheel. two different radios. something to look at.

    My Coronet did that, and it turned out to be the coil. It would heat up, and quit working. You might try that.

    The headlight switches do go bad, I would start there. Sometimes they just get dirty, removes the switch and check it over.

    wrong. The second you turn on a flasher on a 69', there is power to the turn signal switch. I've wired a bunch of them, and they are all the same. The fact that the switch is on the dash means nothing. That is why if you turn on the flasher, then the turn signal handle, things change. My 70'...

    The Flashers , running lights and headlights operate with the key off. it may be that your turn signal switch is grounding in the column when you operate the lever.( During the following test, always walk around the car to verify all lights are working, if they aren't, look for a bad bulb.)...
