On the air cleaner housing, I recall driver's side, above the valve cover. :poke: Thank you, I'm here all week...please tip the waitstaff.

    Catalytic converters

My sister did (Ford Probe), my brother in law did twice (M-body 5th Avenue and some kind of pickup). I recall someone in a magazine noting that one of their project cars (Federal emissions, bought from either Nevada or Arizona) only had to meet 49-state standards.

    Catalytic converters

Yes, I know that, it's true in many places...but a 49-state car doesn't need to pass CA standards even in CA.

    Catalytic converters

I'm sorry, I have no idea what you are getting at.

    Catalytic converters

I'm 99.9% sure that is wrong. A 49-state car tagged in CA does NOT have to meet CARB standards, just Federal.

    Catalytic converters

49-state cars and bikes can be tagged in Cali as long as they have more than some number of miles. (I want to say 2500...)

Walker might be, not all brands. (Especially generic Chinesium. )

I don't have an issue with running cats...I just don't want to buy a nice 76 Dart and discover I need to drop a bunch of money to register it.

    Catalytic converters

83 K20 probably never had cats. Higher GVWR trucks were sold without cats into the 90s!

    Catalytic converters

My sister had one, a Honda...I've seen others, though I don't recall exactly which models.

I'm sorry...have anything helpful to add? I was looking for help, not an editorial.

Visual check for cats. I don't think any still use the rollers I this area. 96+ gets hooked to the computer for the OBD2 check.

    Catalytic converters

I am absolutely 100% certain that there were cars with no catalysts in at least 75-6. (My sister had one.)

    Catalytic converters

I was hoping for experience with the cars; from what I've seen, SOME car engines got cats in 75, but not all. I'm just not sure which ones.

    No tailpipe test, just visual.

So...when did A bodies get cats? I'm looking at a couple later ones, but don't want to end up with a car I can't register.

    Restrictive Mufflers

Grab a pair of cheap glass-packs and put them right at the end of the tailpipes as resonators. The difference will amaze you!

Probably...but not for four hundred bucks! :(

    Undoing stupid-human tricks

Well...my friend's Feather Duster sounded weird. A look under it today clued us in as to why...it has a very-cheezy "Fast Eddie's Discount Muffler" exhaust on it, with what looks like a 1.75" pipe, a lousy (and cracked) muffler, and the pipe over the axle kinked. This needs to go...
