    I think it was more that the older material and also thickness was not as easy to come by. If you look at some of the new trucks (really the only vehicals that still use leaf springs) they have only like 3 leafs but each one is thicker.

    I would think that it would be the material type. The guy at the suspention shop that i talked to mentioned that the original material that the springs were made is more expensive, but he said that there would not be a noticable change in ride quality if they are built right.

    Replacing Torsion Bars

    Just a thought, if the bars are specific for each side with preloads built in then it would most deffinatly mater which end was the front. If there is a preload for one direction of twist, then if you flip the bar end for end the preload would be the wrong way. Unless the preload is just that...
