    Rebuilding leaf springs

If you live near a major city, check and see if you can find someone local to rebuild and rearc the springs. It will save you shipping them. This is a common item to rebuild on heavy trucks.

    '63 Valiant Leaf Springs

I would get them redone as you are near Houston and there should be a spring shop in any major city and save yourself the shipping. I think the spring eye bushing may have a smaller size bolt than the later As, I am sure someone will chime in with the size. Also looks like you have 5 leaf...

Why won't upper ball joint removal socket work?

I made one years ago out of a 3/4 drive 1 3/4" Craftsman socket by grinding down 4 points of a 12-point socket, this was for an early A small ball joint.

Stripped threads on upper control arm ball joint socket

The threads are supposed to look kind of funky as they are like self-locking, the real test is to install the ball joint and torque it to whatever the spec is large and small are different, if the joint seats against the arm and can be torqued to that spec they are good.

    used bearings????

Sometimes people fall into the mentality of put in everything new, I would clean out all the grease and wash out the bearings and the race and inspect them for damage and wear and if none is found I would repack and reuse them. I was a heavy truck mechanic by trade and wheel bearings and races...

    P/S GEAR QUESTION

Normal steering boxes have a tight spot going thru center, but it needs to be measured with an inch pound torque wrench. The preload on the input shaft also has a adjustment that needs to be set first and then the sector shaft is set.

    Spindles- looking for new ones

About the only time you need to replace a spindle is accident damage or if the surface the wheel bearing sits on is worn due to age or having a wheel bearing fail and wear down the surface the inner race sits on. Same issue with the hubs and having the surface where the outer race goes get...

Upper and Lower Ball Joint Replacement

That works also I was just trying to shorten up the process and not messing with the ride height adjustment. But use good jack stands on the frame and I would prefer a floor jack under the lower control arm and do not get under the vehicle. If the lower control arm needs to be rebushed then your...

Upper and Lower Ball Joint Replacement

If your not reusing the ball joint then yes. But another way is to rap with a hammer on the side of the spindle boss after loosening the stud nut. I would leave the nut on the stud to keep it from dropping when it comes loose. By the way keep a jack under the lower control arm because of the...

Upper and Lower Ball Joint Replacement

That is the correct socket. What I did years ago ( pre internet ) was to take a Craftsman 1 3/4 3/4 drive socket I had and ground out 4 points of the socket inside using a die grinder and made a socket to fit the ball joint. Back then only Snap On made the correct socket.

Recheck the wheel bearings. Jack it up and grab the tire top and bottom and see if there is any play in the bearings also check the lug nuts while your at it. Don't drive this at any speed until you find and fix the problem. Also if you can't find the problem yourself please pay someone who can.
