New tow vehicle...6.4 hemi or Diesel?

I feel safety and comfort is primary, so if a truck is rated to pull 12k, do not exceed 80% of capability. Otherwise there is nothing left in a pinch. and Gas engines are pushing the limit every time they pull a heavy load.

New tow vehicle...6.4 hemi or Diesel?

I am not so sure about the 4:10. I had a 2001 that was a strong truck, but the engine was so noisy when My clients spoke i had to coast! And outside OD, I went 65 MPH max.(2400 RPM max) Great mileage, but dowdy.(slow in hillbilly terms)

very true, I began towing with A 2500 with a 5.9 Cummins since 1996 thru 2002, and the 5.9 3500 from 2003 thru 2006, then the 6.7 from 2007 to the present 2012, and I still own that one. The 96 I had ran a Jacobs brake Installed by the Cummins Dealer in Phoenix, and it was a Godsend on...

New tow vehicle...6.4 hemi or Diesel?

there is nothing worse than listening to a gas truck screaming down hill trying to slow down from 10,000 feet to ground level, VS Running 1800-2400 under control at a leisurely pace with the other diesel trucks out there is reassuring. I towed with gas trucks for years until I could afford a...

New tow vehicle...6.4 hemi or Diesel?

Needless to say, if you tow, Diesel is it. Also, I paid 40k for that truck in 2012, and today the dealer offered 35k sight unseen. so resale is a big factor.

New tow vehicle...6.4 hemi or Diesel?

Cummins all the way. I have owned Cummins trucks 1995, and my newest is a 2012, the last years before the diiff additive. I will never sell it. The comfort and safety knowing you can pull 20,000 plus, and have tow/Haul along with the engine brake. In the Mountains with 12,000 the truck laughs at...

383 big block builds, from mild to wild, I want to hear about them!!

I keep my cars as close to original as possible, even repairing an original piece than buy a repop part. The little Plymouth came with the 3:23 sure grip, so it will stay that way, with the original F8 painted wheels and goodyear E70x14 tires. I may venture to the aluminum dual plane...

    Fact or Fiction--Trailer tie downs

I'm with muddog, I have moved cars across country for 30+ years. I always tie down the lower A frame, and the rear axles. I let the suspension do what it was meant to do. I found early on if you tie the car down on the suspension, eventually that car will pull on the straps, eventually loosening...

oil pressure and different weight oils

There are a lot of good oil choices out there, and Valvoline race oil is good. I'm not sure a lot of people research oil qualities as much as they should. If you own 15 cars, Rotella at 13 .00 a gallon is a very efficient use of funds and provides excellent protection.

oil pressure and different weight oils

This topic is an old one, the newer oils have a drain down feature that reduces lubrication . There is too much detergent,, dispersants, and friction modifiers in the new oil products. This is great for Increased fuel mileage in a newer engine, but old mopars don't like it. "Classic oils"has an...

oil pressure and different weight oils

I run 15-45 Rotella diesel for the zinc. 70 lbs cold, 45 hot. 440 magnum, or my 383 magnum. When I ran standard oil, I had 55 cold,25 hot, and it had a metallic sound I hated that. my engines are stock HP engines. That is all gone now.
