Help Needed with '71 Duster with A/C

What I am not sure of is what bracket style (model year) I need to mount the canister. I have a '72 bracket but it does not appear to be the right one. It would be helpful if I could see what the correct bracket looks like. Matt

Help Needed with '71 Duster with A/C

Hello, I am in the process of finishing my engine compartment on my '71 225 Slant Six Duster with A/C. Would anyone have pictures of the carbon canister placement - because I do not see where one should be installed in my car since the horn is in the way. I am not sure if it makes a...

Charrlie: Do you know what was changed in the head on hydraulic cam cars? The newer head is wider and uses a different valve cover then the older solid lifter version. -Matt

    sold to hyd lifters

When I rebuilt my '71 Slant six I decided to convert it over to a hydraulic cam. You will need to do the following: Replace the camshaft with a hydraulic cam. Replace the cam bearings since the rear bearing is different in order to pump the oil to the head. Replace the head with a hydraulic...

How do I seal the Choke Thermostat?

Thanks for the information, that was exactly what I was looking for. I too might have considered a different year manifold had I realized the fun I was in for. But at this point with the manifold blasted, painted and installed in the car + I just spent $30 on a carburator thermostat I am...

How do I seal the Choke Thermostat?

The spring is not open to the exhaust. The steel "cup" is installed to plug the hole with a gasket. The thermostat then sits on top of it. However, after 30+ years pretty much everything on mine was rusted out and shot. The thru hole is definitely a factory feature, since I have 2 of them,

How do I seal the Choke Thermostat?

I just got my '71 Duster with a /6 running last week and I am still working thru a few minor issues. I have a '72 exhaust manifold on the engine which has the thru hole and a stamped steel cup for the carburator thermostat. I have found an original carb. thermostat which I will be adding but...

Help Needed w/my 1971 Slant Six Duster

The funny thing is it will be interesting to see what the previous owner will think when he sees it. I am about 95% sure that I have ripped out every single item that he had touched (including the side stripes). I would love a 340 Duster, but it seems like everywhere I look I see V8 Dusters...

Help Needed w/my 1971 Slant Six Duster

Thanks for the positive comments that everyone posted. I am a little surprised as well to see how nice it is coming out. The entire engine, trans, and all loose parts I bought off of a 1972 Dart. I was planning on putting all of the emissions control items/heat riser, etc. Regards, -Matt

It is going slow, but I now have the engine installed. With any luck in a few weeks it will be on the road if I have all of the parts:) (see my other post for "help with my '71 Duster) -Matt

Help Needed w/my 1971 Slant Six Duster

Hi, I am finially starting to assemble my 1971 Slant Six Duster and I am hoping someone on the forum with a '71 Duster can help me. My car is an original Slant Six, but when I bought it a junk 318 was installed which I have since ripped out. I bought a slant six + transmission off of Ebay and...

Show your slant 6 a body!

Thanks for the encouragement. I was thinking about going with either a new Hemi or 360 and decided the car was too unique NOT to change back to a Slant. Based on the high impact color and all of the options I suspect it will probably get more attention at shows as a six. (plus I will not need...

Show your slant 6 a body!

Attached are pictures of my 1971 Slant 6 Duster. It is a very solid almost rust free California car that was orignally a Slant, Auto, Air, PS, deluxe interior car. When I bought it had a 318 half cobbled up and installed (big cam, 4 bbl, leaky headers with the stock 2.76 7 1/4" rear and 18"...
