What do you think about this statement.........

If the Magnums came with LA rocker gear I don’t think we would be having these debates.

What do you think about this statement.........

To me the short block is basically the same there's obvious little differences, but it's mainly the head package that divides LA vs Magnum's. Stock 1.88 la heads vs magnum heads the magnum heads seems to make 20-30 hp over a similar done LA and pull out strong peak torque numbers. If you have a...

What do you think about this statement.........

Richard Holdener dynos a stock 360 with 4bbl and headers and makes 277 hp and a 5.9l with 4bbl and headers dynos 301 hp, and there is a manifold and header shootout and the 5.9l dynos as high as 327 hp. He also dynos a 212 roller in a 5.9l for 350hp, and xe250h with a mild ported 2.02 head to...

What do you think about this statement.........

Depends what you think a factory 340 makes, a stock 5.9l magnum dynos 280 hp bet the 5.2l ain't far behind so probably similar but way better under the curve at least.

What do you think about this statement.........

They probably can but so can the LA ones ? Where magnum generally have an advantage is the short blocks are usually in decent shape and the pistons are high enough to build ok CR and the ability to run a hydraulic roller if one chooses, basically you don't have to do a rebuild, the magnum heads...

    1.7 rockers with 380HP Cam

Your probably better off with another cam, you don't always gain power going with higher ratio especially with a cam not designed with them in mind. But saying that the 380 cam seem like it would have slow ramps so it could work.

    Magnum dyno videos

With your combo I’d probably go with the larger cam, could always add Rhoads roller lifters and get best of both worlds.

    Magnum dyno videos

This where it comes down to intended use and preference. Im going from the 380 hp create cam and M1 single plane to the Chinese air gap and smaller comp 265 roller, cause I plan on using it like a daily driver not a weekend play toy and don’t plan on racing it. But if was a weekend play toy and...

The Base is the 300hp crate engine which is a stock 5.9l Magnum with a 4bbl intake M1 dual plane and 750 holley and headers. Seems about right with his 288 hp with beer barrel and manifolds. 300hp with headers imagine 4bbl intake for another 10-20 hp. (The mod is eddy heads air gap and a Comp...

5.9 magnum stock vs aftermarket heads for 400hp

Stock Magnum heads already can make 400hp This is a stock 380hp crate engine, stock longblock M1 single plan 750 holley headers and something like 231/236, 288/296 108 .513 lift cam

Cam options for a 380hp 360 crate motor

I though of doing similar with my 380hp crate or installing Rhoads roller lifters.

Cam options for a 380hp 360 crate motor

I think the cam works really well, especially with the stock magnum valve lift limit. I was thinking of going a bit smaller like a 265 .500 mild roller or drop in a set 4.10-4.56 and stick with what’s there.

Cam options for a 380hp 360 crate motor

The 68 Valiant I bought own did the same he put in 2.96 gears but bought the 380hp engines, which definitely doesn’t make it a rocket around town, have to drive in 2nd gear under 40 mph or it lugs.

    5.9L Magnum build with questions

Maybe I miss read , I thought you were looking to use stock magnums or EQ's. Cams only allow a percentage of air flow of what your heads are able to flow, same cam with different heads can very the powerband greatly. To make peak power above 6000 rpm you would something like W2 or similar.

    5.9L Magnum build with questions

Nice build, but your not gonna make peak power in the 6000 - 6500 rpm range. You would need a lot more head for that. Probably be in the 5400 - 5600 rpm range.

    5.2L Hp and torque estimate?

    215 -225 @ 474 - 500 I go for something in that range. 350 ish hp should be attainable

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

Pretty awesome engine for a cam intake on a truck engine, with the 2.94 I need run in 2nd trough town so it dont lug , or do 40 mph in 1st then hammer it to feel its power. Ive been talk into grabbing a set of 4.56 :)

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

For now, maybe over the winter port the heads/intake and add 1.7 roller rockers. Don't see no point in taming the cam anymore and with 4.30 gears traction will be limited so probably won't need the torque of the airgap.
  25. 273

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

Thats the plan now, I cancel the intake and lifter order, gonna grab a set of 4.30 gears. Bought an Avenger RT to handle daily driving duties so the Valiant is free to be more street strip machine :)

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

My car came with the 380hp create Works pretty good a little soft under 2000 rpm. The gears is my main problem 2.94 with a 2800 stall. Plan on swapping to an airgap and Rhoads roller lifters to help bottom end. Plus add 3.55 - 4.36 not sure yet. See how the intake and lifters help first.

Stock magnum heads cam roll call!

I got the 380 hp create with 727 and 2800 stall and 2.94 rear gears cam is around 288/296 .500 ish lift. Its pretty soft under 2000 rpm, have to drive in 2nd in town, and have to get her up to 40 mph in 1st before gasing it to feel its real power. Obviously a set of 4.10-4.30 would cure that...

    MPG Motor Magnum vs. Hemi

Smaller engine doesn't necessarily mean better mileage especially if your looking for a bit of performance to go with it. If you plan on going OD a 5.2/5.9 would be a good choice since it bolts right up.
  29. 273

    MPG Motor Magnum vs. Hemi

Its hard to recoup dollars spent on gaining mileage. Especially a summer only car. Your better off just putting the dollars into the gas tank. It could take decades to recoup $5000. If you do a lot of highway driving OD is a decent value for performance and mpg gain.

    Magnum Cam recommendation

Cant go much over .500 lift. Got to make sure you factor in the 1.6 rocker ratio.
