    360 Cam suggestions

Do have an ballpark idea ? Pretty much could make an argument to use cams from like 224 to 250 or so, I'd say around 235 give or take cut on 108 to 110 lsa, .500 to .550 lift.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Cause your reply to Junkyardhero's answer to YOUR question seems a little condescending.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

We’re they supposed to manufacture different mains for each applications?

What cam to use in a 318

Not knocking DV but he's just one of many engine builders out there none of them agree 100% or know a 100% of anything and anyone can have patents, it's not a good argument for or against anything. But the talk of his patent got me interested what they were, these are what I found. Patents...

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Cause they didn't care about a few hp at high rpm, they wanted make sure it would live as a work engine, now days we know cast cranks are pretty tough back then they didn't know as well.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

If it was anything substantial you'd think people would notice it by now when building similar 340 and 360.

    Edelbrock, TrickFlow rocker question

By this line sounds like they should fit any standard LA head, just the way that It's oiled is the variation, I'd still call to be sure

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I don't think he thinks 318s are worthy alternative, I could be wrong :)

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I just looked up didn't find any dyno evidence, but one thing I seen Nascar put a limit how small they can go with main of 2" or other wise the teams would just keep going smaller, so obviously there's room for gains at that level but like you said doubt an average guy builds gonna matter. One...

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

Probably at least a 15% gain

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Not bad for an 6 year run over 50 years ago and only sold as a performance option, shows a lot of 340 cars no longer exists one way or another.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I said WHEN like at some future point. The last 360 was made 2 decades ago it's not gonna be the go to engine forever, only reason it isn't now cause the cost and added complexity not always gonna be that way.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

If people bought the ritter aftermarket block we got now by huge demands, they could probably start producing it cheaper and might cause other companies to build a competitors but no one's gonna invest if there's no market.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

When at some point a decent running 5.7l hemi can be swapped in for around grand it will be a no brainer for most.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I imagine in an average build no, in a high rpm, in a highly competitive race class where every last hp counts probably.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Gen 3 Hemi definitely will eventually take over as the main go to engine for Mopars over the next couple of decades if the government doesn't outlaw the hobby in the meantime.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

True but a lot here judge by displacement alone. As long it's not followed by a B or RB :)

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Especially if you punch it out 60 thou your only 12 cid shy.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I don't see the point in just a re cast of a 340 block, there's already a bunch of 360 blocks out there close enough. IF your gonna do it should come with bigger bore and handle more power.
  20. 273

What cam to use in a 318

I always thought people generally meant cams with decent idle, vacuum and didn't mess with idle-2500 rpm torque (power) that much, whatever that maybe for your engine probably around 200-215 intake duration. People like to categorize/generalize.

    Another 318 set up

For a lot of guys I think they should build around the gears and stall their willing to run, which is usually not much.
  22. 273

Factory hydraulic roller set up on an older block?

I imagine IF the lifters work with the shorter lifter bores, some kind of mount for the spider can be fabricated.

Some dyno testing you guys may want to follow on YouTube

I've noticed there seems to be a ceiling at these lower numbers.

Some dyno testing you guys may want to follow on YouTube

Up to .450 both the cnc and stock SM are very similar, stock SM probably wouldn't lose too much to the cnc with a .500-.550 cam maybe 450 ish hp similar torque. Some porting probably pretty close to one another.
  25. 273

What cam to use in a 318

Cause the cid, cr and velocity police come in and complicate what should be basic recommendations.

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

AJ’s advice works if you drive like AJ slow and shift by 3000 rpm’s :)

Some dyno testing you guys may want to follow on YouTube

Looks like the Trick flows are making 30-40 hp more across the rpm band.
  28. 273

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

Rear end alone can cost quite a bit, probably will have a 7 1/4, so depends how you go about it, can end up upgrading everything in the back. $$$$, plus it's a fairly big job for some. Plus in the end of the day most will be lucky if they go as a deep as 3.55 gear set.
  29. 273

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

The good thing about a stock 318 it's such a turd in power it's easy to gain 20-30%+ over stock your gonna feel it no matter the gears.
  30. 273

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

Here's a stock low cr 2bbl 318 with headers to 4bbl and comp xe262h cam almost a 100 hp gain, 189 hp to 282 hp, who knows what the 4bbl would of made on it's own. https://www.motortrend.com/articles/mopp-0312-318-long-block-bolt-ons/
