I feel your frustrations for sure. Don't need a lift or garage to sort you most of it. If you are in this hobby, you better learn it. You've already proven "why". Lots of info out there, starting right here on this site, others and youtube. Doing the "basic" checks is the bare minimum...

at 4 minutes in the video, you can see the truck going on the Dakota frame. I'm not a big fan of it being lowered, but that's his taste.

Usually with detonation, the spark plug insulator will generally have "metallic" looking specs on it. Detonation will cause the ring to overheat, and it can freeze up in the landing. Piston will show as well. Detonation is like most things, mild to wild. Just want to make sure you don't...

You are correct, they would help lower the compression a little. I've never lost a 8553 head gasket, but I like them on stuff under 180 psi cyl pressure. I have them on half my small blocks now, but most my stuff is nowhere near even 180 psi

Did you have the heads resurfaced before assembly ? (not reading 52 pages for that info lol) Just sayin', if they were raised in the center even .005 that wouldn't help the 8553's out at all either

I just think you mis-used the 8553. Be thankful you close to home. 1008's will serve you better but will push the compression up just a tad more.

100% agree. Either the cam timing events are really advanced or it's got more than 9.3:1 in my opinion.

Fel Pro 8553 is a good head gasket for stock rebuilds, but they don't like 200+ psi or better per cylinder. You'll need a better gasket.

Maybe sometime, when the truck is done, I'll be down there to see it make a pass !!

When it's finished, where will be the "home track" ? Cordova? Bryron?

Are you going to hook up the rack-n-pinion ? Or just use it as manual steering?
