Will a starter alone move an automatic?

If you have a super dooper quadooooooper tight torque converter and 5.13 gears, and a HP mini starter on 24V ...... then maybe. :D Kidding aside, No, it's not going to move it.

    Plan Z Moved West

Slant Daily has done some really cool builds. What I like is he plays at all ends of the "build spectrum". He has a lot of experience.

Running too rich-can’t figure it out

    1. check to make sure choke is opening all the way 2. check float level 3. check timing - both initial and total 4. Is the cat plugged ? 5. What brand and heat range of spark plug? 6. Coil output ok? 7. ECU working ok? Grounded? 8. Is the heat riser flap frozen shut in the exhaust manifold?

    Help please, plug reading wizards!

Plugs are crying out - help us ! According to the pictures.... Ground straps are black without timing mark Couple are oil logged Looks like were rich .... Or is it wrong timing ? .... Weak spark ? I would guess the plugs are too cold ... Of course, the carb doesn't get a free pass... Does...

    Best possible mileage?

    I had a 225/4-speed with 3.91 gears in a '74 D100. I got 24-26 mpg. Unbelievable, but we checked it several times.

Setting timing for /6 with new electronic distributor

The decal under the hood on slants can recommend anywhere between 2*BTDC - 12*BTDC. I personally would just put it where it ran the best.

    HOW ABOUT A 1979 318 V-8 IN MY '73 SCAMP?

be patient, deals on motors/tranny's and even exhaust, radiators and mounts are out there..... If it's got to be done in a month, plan on paying the premium price. If you look and search with ambition over several months, you can do it for a dime on the dollar.

    HOW ABOUT A 1979 318 V-8 IN MY '73 SCAMP?

a good running 5.2 or 5.9 magnum can be bought between 150 - 350 bucks. A good running LA 318 (pre 1992) can be bought for 300 or less, sometimes for 100 bucks if a guy want's it out of his garage. Just to let you know the "going prices" with a little bit of patience.

    HOW ABOUT A 1979 318 V-8 IN MY '73 SCAMP?

Well, a 360 could need a rebuild as well as any other engine. Why should he go the 360 route?? He was going to install a 3.9 V6, so I assume racing isn't the purpose of the car.

    HOW ABOUT A 1979 318 V-8 IN MY '73 SCAMP?

Although the magnum motors are a great choice, cheap and easy to locate.

    HOW ABOUT A 1979 318 V-8 IN MY '73 SCAMP?

You'd need motor adapting motor mounts or a different K-frame. A 318 2bbl that's been sitting for 21 years is not worth a lot, so be careful what you spend.

    8h 600 Mile Roadtrip - Advice

1200 miles is really not that big of a deal though, if you just do a little homework. In just the last 3 years, starting with 2018 we took my wife's '77 Ramcharger through 9 states and almost 4,000 miles. Illinois to the Grand Canyon on old Route 66, and returned up through Dodge City Ks...

So much for the " it came out of a running, driving car. Drop it in and go."

That's unfortunate. If you don't know the people, then it's a "roll of the dice". Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

makes sense now that you explained it. That info probably should be in the first post so folks know the details. In your first post all you mention is the price of 2bbls for a slant six, so I think you are looking for the cheapest 2bbl for a slant six. I bought one cheaper than what the link...
