MPG The Best Of Both Worlds

Isn't the tighter converter and lower RPMs with that cam going to really bog the motor down, causing a lot of wasted fuel to go out the tail pipe?

MPG The Best Of Both Worlds

Are you kidding? I don't think that carb ever took MPG into consideration when it was designed. 3.91 gears has got to kill any kind of mileage. That cam, too. Perhaps the converter isn't that big of a hit in the MPG department. Many of the things the manufacturers do only increase MPG a...

    Traction issues

The back definitely should not drop. Weight transfer--yes. Front lift--yes. If the back drops, it's because the differential is lifting, thus lifting the tires off the ground. That's the last thing you want for traction. Look closely at real race cars with stock type rear suspensions. The...

    machine shop Seattle, WA area?

I was referred to DG Machine in Auburn and was satisfied. Here's a link to their web site that's under construction. Guess they're busy racing: http://www.dgdragparts.com/index.html Looks like they race Chevy stuff, but they do everything from 4-cyls to big blocks, stock to race. They did a...

    Mopar 284/528 mechanical camshaft

The 318 Engine Build - A Parts Book 400HP 318 used this cam: "We selected a Competition Cams 280H Magnum camshaft, which is a single-pattern grind featuring 280 degrees of rated duration and 230 degrees of duration at .050-inch tappet rise. This cam is advertised as having .480-inch lift, but...

    Mopar 284/528 mechanical camshaft

Looks like you want a cam to work with your stall, gear, cid, compression, and weight. What do your heads flow? Do you have a goal in mind, or do you want the most power with your current parts? I'd give your specifications to the cam manufacturers and see what they say. I wonder how close...

    340 vs 440

Get the 440 rebuilt and have an easy 12 second street car. If you use aluminum intake, water pump housing, and heads like the $800 440Source models, you're already lighter than a slant six, which weighs the same as a small block, by the way. Modern tires, stiffer torsions, sway bars, proper...

    Lithium grease on intake gasket.

I use it on my thermostat housings all the time for that reason. I don't see a problem using it on intakes as long as the surfaces all mate up at the same angle. Is this a small block? On big blocks, I've swapped intakes with a friend once and we both reused the gaskets without leaks.
