    Engine Skip

Vacuum @ 550 rpm is 18.5. Shouldn't it be some higher? Also, the engine originally had a drool tube but it has been converted to a PCV valve since the new Holly 390 had a port for it. Will this work or should I convert it back to a drool tube and plug the carb PCV vacuum port?

    Engine Skip

Thanks. I intend to check the vacuum this weekend. I'll also try some of the suggestions to see if it will help.

    Engine Skip

Thanks for the suggestions. I drove the car again today to observe a little closer. Even though it cranks good, it is skipping when idling and at most RPM's. I didn't notice it earlier. However, it stops skipping completely and runs smooth when accelerating. I'll have to check with the...

    Engine Skip

I just rebuilt a '62 aluminum 225. The engine cranks good and idles smooth. When it builds up a little RPM's, the engine starts to skip, but when accelerating, the skip disappears and the engine pulls strong. When you level out at cruise, it starts to skip again. I installed a mild cam...

    My 160 (1965) slant 3 on tree

Anyone ever think about a /6 intake with 3 single barrels on top rather than the Webers and SU's on the side? Seems like the stock 1 barrels would be easier to adjust and make for a really cool setup.

    Aluminum /6 Rear Main Seal

Mitchell Motor Parts (706-337-4606). They might have changed their name recently but I think the number is still good. Slow service but a large selection of NOS parts.

    Aluminum /6 Rear Main Seal

Thanks Dan for the advise. I went ahead and installed the upper seal retainer using RTV. I think I got a good bond. I did order the newer 2 piece rubber seals and installed them. Also, I was able to find a NOS copper head gasket.

    Aluminum /6 Rear Main Seal

Thanks for the reply. I believe you misunderstood my problem. I don't have an issue with installing the rear main seal, only with installing the upper seal retainer. With the aluminum block, both rear main seal retainers are removable, an upper and a lower. The second picture shown is the...

    Aluminum /6 Rear Main Seal

I am rebuilding an aluminum /6 225 and am trying to figure out the rear main seal installation. I have a Felpro neoprene 2-piece seal which is simple to install. What is confusing me is the (removable) upper seal retainer has a smooth outer surface while the mating surface of the block has a...

    Qualified machine shop

Thanks for the suggestions. Since Macon is close (I'm in Bulloch County), I'll give them a call.

    Qualified machine shop

Does anyone know a machine shop who can bore a '62 aluminum 225 slant 6? I am rebuilding the engine and need to bore it 30 thousandths. I have been to several reputable shops and they all say it will require some type of reinforcing plate to secure the sleeves to the deck while they are being...
