    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

I let the body shop talk me into going with acrylic enamel single stage Wish I had insisted on base coat clear coat.

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

Hi Ulf! The inside of the resonator was black, but probably from the exhaust from leaded gas. The outside was stainless, which I kept polished.

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

It was an issue when the cars were new. The cam tail on the cars created a low pressure area and exhaust gasses were sucked up around the bumper and the aluminum trim piece along the trunk (on the GTs) as well as on the trunk lid. On a long trip my '65 Dart GT bumper would be blue above the...

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

You may be right, Ulf but the hanger is the same on the '66 models without the notch and there is a bumper in the way, although the exhaust may have been attached before the bumper. I prefer to think there was a miscommunication between the engineering and design teams. It would have looked much...

I can assure you the exhaust tip on any of Ulf Andersen's cars is going to be fitted correctly!

I wonder why Chrysler placed the resonator notch in the rear valance of 273-4 Bbl Darts and Barracudas. The exhaust doesn't fit tightly into the notch. Maybe it was a miscalculation on the part of the designers and the exhaust extension was originally supposed to fit up into the notch?

    65 Dart Revisited II

Thanks for the vinyl top tutorial. I'll be referring to it for my vinyl top installation. Did you use a metal strip to secure the vinyl above the window opening? Did you fill the void between the vinyl and stainless trim that fits over the gutter with sealant?

    65 Dart Revisited II

Thanks for the tip on Noico insulation and sound deadener. I'll be using that product on my build.

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

Thanks, Ulf but I'm using an Edlebrock 1406 carb with 3/8" fuel line so I've had to make my own. I sincerely appreciate your kind offer though!

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

My original fuel line on the '65 Dart I bought in 1966 did not have a/c but had a fuel line similar to what you have pictured. I remember because I twisted the line accidentally trying to remove it and recall purchasing a replacement from the dealer's parts department. My current Dart Charger...

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

Mine has been through so many owners, there's no telling what it came with. It's been painted tan, then back to yellow, the vinyl top changed from white to black, the engine was rebuilt with 8:1 pistons, a 318 intake manifold, carburetor from a 383...it was a mess.

    1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

Could someone had this (non-original) air cleaner chromed? I've never seen one like it. But then my air cleaner lid and oil filler top are not CA spec. They don't have the hose fitting. Either my car was sold outside California or someone changed it along the line...after 45-50 years, who knows?

I thought the original "Charger 273" plates were thin metal. Am I wrong?

Don't know about the "VL" represents (maybe a vendor mark?), but the obvious is "LF" means Left Front, "LR" means Left Rear, "RF" means Right Front and "RR" means Right Rear.

This is a photo of the original valve cover bolt from my '65 Dart Charger. Mine may have been chrome plated at one time, but now appear to be stainless.

Great aerial shot of your fleet, Ulf! I watched the video, and it was interesting, even though I couldn't understand what was being said. :>)

65 Dart Charger on way home after bodywork and paint

That's it! Unfortunately, someone hit something and dented an area from the driver's side rear lower door to the wheel opening and the rocker panel. Then, whoever did the poor repair painted both rear quarter panels and the C pillars and roof in a slightly different color base coat/clear coat...

65 Dart Charger on way home after bodywork and paint

I saw on the fender tag where it had come with a white vinyl top from the factory, and saw evidence of it when I removed the black vinyl top. It wouldn't have looked very good with light yellow paint and a white top to me, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Josh's dad was there when I...

65 Dart Charger on way home after bodywork and paint

That's it! I bought it from Josh Kanas (sp), who lives on a farm northwest of Milwaukee. It was a mess when I bought it. Some previous owner had put 8:1 pistons, a 318 intake and a carb from a 383 on it. The engine was so far gone I junked it. There was no suspension on it...most of the rubber...

More photos: Thanks! It's color code #881 and was special order (999) for Dart Chargers produced at the Los Angeles plant in late '64 to early '65. Mine was born 22 December, 1964. 65DartCharger is the expert on these cars and knows infinitely more about them than me.

65 Dart Charger on way home after bodywork and paint

Attached is a photo of my 65 Dart Charger waiting for the tow truck to bring her home. Will get the firewall pieces installed, then engine, K member and suspension installed and return it to H & M Auto Care to have the fenders and front valance installed.
