    moog problem solvers creating problems....

My Moog problem makers are .014" larger diameter than the ones that came out of the arm. That's too much press fit for me so I belt sanded them down before deciding on o.e. style and those ones were oversized too.

Are my upper control arms unusable now? 1973 Dart.

Looks like he just removed the rubber from the shells to me

    Factory style upper control arms

You're welcome. I had just found that thread the day before you posted. I've got both Moog(USA) and Dorman(India) bushings and both are a little bigger than the originals. Maybe the tooling is getting worn. NOS should be nice, good luck

    moog offset bushings too big?

Update: Called Moog and had them pull up the chrysler spec, it's 1.17", These are over 1.18", seems a tad hairy I asked if they'd had any issues with fitment or customer complaints and he said no. Gunna buy some normal bushings and measure before I leap this time. Thanks guys,

    moog offset bushings too big?

I have some new aftermarket upper A's hanging in the garage but heard bad things about them (magnumfarce) so there they sit. Also their bushings are solid nylon/delrin and are for the small ball joints which I'd have to shim to work with my later disc spindles (guessing). My build mantra...

    moog offset bushings too big?

I made a socket/pipe/threaded rod puller, definitely not hammering anything. Definitely a cautious kinda guy. Much appreciated, That's what I felt too. And that's in addition to the original press fit, which is healthy! When I go to redo this, as I put the original bushing back in, I'll...

    moog offset bushings too big?

That's a relief, thanks guys! Honestly I was pretty pissed at first.

    moog offset bushings too big?

So my new UCA moog 7103 are 1.182 diameter outer shells, originals are 1.168 diameter. Arms are for a 1975 Valiant Is that a safe interference fit? The old ones weren't loose at all in the arm. I don't want to split the arms forcing these in. Drive 'em home or put the oldies back?

    Steering coupler kicking my ***...

I think he's got it correct. Here's what mine looks like coming apart, although it's a '65

Manual steering box worn out or can be adjusted?

I thought slant boxes have bushings and aren't rebuildable?

    U-joint vs pot coupler

After rebuilding it, the original coupler is fantastic. Tight and slop free, smooth as butter! In comparison, early mustangs(?) used a bolt together rag joint that can fall apart. The Chrysler design is miraculous in comparison

    Street shock absorber recommendation

Maybe add a little ride height to the front, or take some away depending on what you're trying to achieve. Speed bumps and potholes? Add height. I like a little higher than stock but not much

    Steering Box Ratio

Looks good. The padded steering wheels definitely have an advantage over the old skinny solid rim ones. Used to use a grant challenger 13.5" which is great until you quit going to the gym. Challenge your arms

    Steering Box Ratio

Changing to a smaller steering wheels quickens the feel a bunch and is easy to reverse if you change your mind. Or quit going to the gym. Visually maybe not what you're looking for

1966 Valiant Power to Manual Steering Questions??

Definitely use a v8 box if possible. The /6 ones had non-rebuildable bushings in them per Mopar Action

Opinions on Power or Manual steering

You did say big block, so I'm going to say go power. Especially if you can get the firm feel fast-ratio setup (16:1 vs 24:1 as I recall). The power steering on early A's is pretty vague all right. The manual you can feel rough gravel in the asphalt

Scarebird Disk Brake Conversion Kits: Anybody done one?

This may not apply to you, but some slant six cars had wheels that would only fit the 9" drums up front. So if you have those wheels, not even 10" drums will fit without a LOT of hand sledge work to the back of the wheel. I doubt anything bigger than MG Midget (8"...?) discs would fit easily...

    lca bushing sleeve removal ?????

Isn't welding galvanized toxic? I did it outdoors once and it still gave me a sore throat

    Floating Feeling?

There's a big bolt sticking up on the lower control arms. Loosen to lower the front end. My handling improved after raising the rear of the car, but I still get that loose feeling around 95

    Binding in Manual Steering Box?

Mopar Action did a steering rebuild article a few years back, it mentioned the box is supposed to have increased resistance in the "straight ahead" position, -to reduce highway shimmy iirc. But it shouldn't be noticeable while driving

Cheap lower column bearing - floor shift conversion

Sooo nice! That should last 5,000,000 times longer than the crummy factory piece. And a sight cheaper too. Thanks for posting, and please let us know how it affects the road feel. Too cool

    Air Shocks Really Helped

+1 no problems with air shocks in over a decade, 90 psi max. but that messes up the ride too much and barks the tires in shifts a lot. Improved the handling of the car in turns and body roll is greatly reduced. No downsides yet, but I'm also not off-roading it
