1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

I decided to lose the front bumper on mine, so i f you decide to use a front bumper, I have one available. It's perfect, after $950 worth of plating from Advanced Plating.

1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

You will be happy with Detroit Muscle products. I used them for everything on my '65.

1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

Did you change wheels? Those look very similar to mine.

    64 Valiant 440 build

Yes, built by Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle.

    64 Valiant 440 build

Thank you! I wish I could take credit for it, but it's way beyond my talent level. Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle built it; I just wrote the checks.

    64 Valiant 440 build

Yep, after 40+ years of fenderwell headers limiting turning radius and ride height options, mine is finally down where it needs to be; wheel openings raised one inch and flared to allow further drop. Opening up the rear wheel openings helped also.

    65 Barracuda daily driver

The seat looks great; the difference between the two looks the same as when I had mine reupholstered 30+ years ago! That is a great product! The ribbed seating surface areas on mine were still in good shape, so the upholstery shop re-used them, and they still looked good when I went down the...

1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

Wow, I just discovered this thread! Darn, I thought I was going to have the only early Barracuda with IRS!

Yep, aluminum 433 c.i. 3rd gen hemi, with Hilborn stack injection, dry sump oil system, Tremec 6-speed with PPG sequential shift conversion, independent rear suspension, Detroit Speed front suspension, Alcon brakes, active suspension control, and a few other goodies. I am not using a...

Yes, the 340 provided lots of fun. I had it in a '66 Valiant from '72 until I put it in the Barracuda in '77. However, the 340 is now gone, as is everything else except the roof, doors, and rear quarter panels. Here's what it looked like a few months ago.

    65 Barracuda daily driver

I just saw your thread for the first time, and read the whole thing; your car looks great. I have had my '65 since '77, when I dropped in a '68 340 and 727 Torqueflite. Your after-paint pictures brought back memories of driving mine home from the paint shop in '82 and putting all the chrome...

    1964 Barracuda Restomod

Welcome from a fellow engineer and Barracuda owner. I think you will be happy with the 3.55. I ran a 4.30 behind my 340 for 40 years, and it was great fun around town--but it was definitely not a highway cruiser! However, had a 6-speed tranny been available way back then, that 4.30 would have...

    64 Valiant 440 build

Yeah, I figured you were planning on access to those from below--just wasn't sure you would be able to reach through there after the down tubes are complete. You will definitely want to do any plug changing on a cold engine! You will probably want to stick a heat shield between those top two...

    64 Valiant 440 build

You are gonna have fun with those two rear plugs--a couple of small access holes in the inner fender wells might be a great time saver! Equal lengths are nice, but not a big deal with the firing order of a V8 (unless it has a flat plane crank). In fact, a little variation in primary tube length...

    64 Valiant 440 build

Okay, I can see the line forming to order headers from you! Did you use a program such as Dynomation or Engine Analyzer to calculate pipe diameters and lengths, or did you do it manually? I'm doing some "ciphering" myself, but thinking about buying one of the programs to check the numbers.

    64 Valiant 440 build

Yes, he was. Although most people associate him with the hemi, one of my favorite A-body cars was his '69 notchback Barracuda featured in this mid-'70s issue of Popular Hot Rodding. One line that I will always remember from the article states that he was a practical man, and "if he wants to...

    64 Valiant 440 build

Well, it looks wide open now, but it might close in a little when the fender wells and dry sump pump and plumbing are in place. I think I have a little more engine width than you do, but getting rid of the torsion bars and stock frame certainly helped!

Looking good! Headers should be fun. My '65 Barracuda is approaching the header stage:
