I'd check and see if the mounting brackets are tight on the block and the pump. It should not be oscillating or moving around at all when running.

Update - Installed the flaming river coupler this evening. Ended up being 3/4 inch as the dimension to cut off. Thanks a mil for the advice guys. At that amount it gives the coupler max engagement onto the shaft without interfering with the u joint. By the way, on my column there was a 3/16"...

Okay - so you pulled the column up and removed the stock coupler and slid the column back down into position and measured it with the flaming river coupler on the box - and compared the dimension to determine the amount to cut off - got you - thanks guys. Glad I did not do what they suggested.

Longgone - I have one of those couplers and plan to install it soon. When you say you measured and cut off less than what they recommended, what measurement did you take to determine how much to cut. I certainly dont want to cut off too much. Your advice is greatly appreciated !

You already have the stock 5 on 4 inch set up? You must be thinking about a lot of HP and torque from the new motor ? The weak link in these axles are the wheel studs. They are very wimpy and snap off pretty easy. Otherwise unless you are drag racing I'd guess the stockers are fine.

Not sure what body style you are working with - In any event take a tape measure - and measure the distance from the outside of one leaf spring to the inside of the other leaf spring straight across. This will give you the center point for the axle saddle mounts. Dont forget the u joint angle...

Are you sure the uppers are bad ? You can replace just the boots and save the joints if they are okay. usually its the lower ball joints that wear out on mopars. Just a thought.

If the K frame is a v8 type then all you need to mount a 340 or 360 are the correct motor mount engine "plates". The K frames are the same regardless of whether it was a 273, 318, 340 or 360 original application. It might also have the later spool mounts which are actually better than the old...
