    TF904 kickdown band anchor failure

its a "semi rigid" band....i think? its a twin to the raybestos pro-series band. I tried rolling it out last night just to satisfy my curiosity, and its definitely a no go.....rrrrr!!!

    TF904 kickdown band anchor failure

For sure! i know what you are talking about with the band having spring tension. Naturally my biggest concern is having this problem again down the road and if theres a way to prevent it. This is frustrating as hell but I spose you gotta pay to play....

    TF904 kickdown band anchor failure

Got a fun one here, cope racing TF904-4 "pro street reverse manual shift" that nuked 2nd gear on the 7th shift....literally. Was on its maiden voyage and lost it, so I dropped the valve body that same night and saw this. The anchor point honestly looks cheesy as hell, has anyone else ever seen...

Differential Contact Pattern At 500 Miles

thanks!! that did help. its an 8.25. and the inner bearing had a shim between the case and the race. Chrysler still offers them for jeeps. they were used to correct the bearing position when the factory goofed up on the case.....fun stuff...

Differential Contact Pattern At 500 Miles

I tried different shims in .002 increments. its a little noisy, but not nearly as noisy as I would expect with a sheisty pattern like that. what's killing me is no matter what shim pack I setup, that's the pattern I got. it just changed position on the tooth. I left it at .032, because it was at...

Differential Contact Pattern At 500 Miles

I'm a bit nervous on my drive side of the teeth at my 5/600 mile fluid change. I stuck a magnet on the cover to catch debris, there was hardly anything. however the tooth pattern has me worried, the section on the drive side that looks galled is where my main contact pattern was on setup. i cant...

    8 1/4 rear end 2.45 gears!

just built an 8.25 for my 66 from a 74 dart. it had 2.45's, just remember the carrier is special to 2.21's and 2.45's. 2.74's and up have a different carrier, the ring gear is approx 7mm farther left of center compared to the 2.74 and up carrier. also, theres 2 different carrier bearing sizes...

Not a car but I need transfer case info

being an 8800 GVW rig theres 2 options those came with, the NP241-DHD and the NP241-DLD either one will interchange from a cummins or a v10 powered 2500 or 3500. the 360 gasser 2500's and half tons have different spline counts i believe (dont quote me) and honestly are not worth the hassle of...

904 is driving me to insanity....

I have a hunch you're right. I'm leaning towards piston seal though only because I JUST had the pan off and there was absolutely no schrapnel. I know it will eventually kill the ol girl though, but that's ok. I have an engine to build, I'll add a trans overhaul to the list. now whether it dies...

904 is driving me to insanity....

thanks guys. this is why i love this place. ive heard about type f, B&M quickshift fluid is type F. I dug into my old repair manuals from the late 70s again, whats the chances the rear clutch is worn out? only used in all forward gears, i neglected to mention that from a dig, if I hammer down...

904 is driving me to insanity....

superior trans inc. made the kit. they were big about 20 years ago from what i hear. this kit was from the late 80's sold through NAPA. My coworker bought it for his 69 fish slant/904 that he used to have but never used it, and when he moved he gave it to me. kind of sad when this brand new kit...

904 is driving me to insanity....

nope.....the kit I got left the balls in, but only removed the two small balls in the bottom part of the valve body, and I drilled 3 holes just a scoche bigger in the separator plate, and one vent hole in the valve body right near the biggest valve, to create a vent. my body has 6 passages in...

904 is driving me to insanity....

just installed and road tested my kick-*** shift "correction" kit in my 87 vintage police car lockup 904, adjusted the bands, built an accumulator blocker rod, and removed the accumulator spring. the kit did everything i wanted it to, raised the shift points, helped the kickdown, increased...

    late model 318 904 and 63 /6 904 question

some of those cop transmixers had one more clutch disc and steel per clutch pack. my 87 vintage cop trans is one of those monsters. from what i understand (wich is somewhat vague please chime in anyone if im wrong) they were A999's. was your cop trans in a cruiser or highway patrol rig? most...

anybody ever put a drain plug in their 8.75 housing

i did one in my 73 D100. used a 1/2 inch drain plug with a nut welded on the inside of the housing, and i cut 2 reliefs in the side of the nut itself so the gear lube would drain completely, used a nylon washer with it, worked very well and i didnt have to worry about breaking it off being 1/2 inch.

904 / Slant six - No Reverse problem - broken band?

looks really dang close to the size of the magnet in my chryslers 727 and my darts 904, do the pans in your decomissioned and "new" trans have a round recess or dimple stamped in the pan for a magnet to sit? i want to say it was towards the passenger-rear corner of the pan....

    Whats everyone running for gears?

7 1/4 sure grip 2.94's currently, 13 inch pizza cutters. Ill see if i like the 2.94's in my 8.25 sure grip to be swapped in with 225/60/15's...if not, 3.23 swap. good enough gear to keep the rpms in a manageable range cruizing (i have a lockup 904) but still "tall" enough to get crazy with.

thank you OMM! if you could send a few pictures id muchly appreciate it! my list of shenanigans to do is growing haha I suppose since this drivetrain was made to do 125 mph with 2.94's then it would only make sense it has heavy gov. pistons wouldnt it? 904 cooler lines

i did 3/8 steel tubing wrapped in asphalt poly-loom on my setup, mainly to avoid pinholes from being rubbed into the line over time, and the drivers side head pipe is pretty close as well. did two 90 degree brass adapters out of the trans, hugging the bellhousing super tight, up between the...
