I fabbed up something out of wood and then had them covered with upholstery material that sit on the armrest area of my 67 Barracuda convertible. I have 6 inch round speakers in them as well as kickpanel speakers in the front. I can hear the music real well at 50-60 mph with the top down.

If you mean the original side panel, yes I kept it. All I did was take the little padded piece off the side panel, nothing more, then made up the enclosures and fastened them to the side panel through holes that were there for mounting the padded piece.
