i run these tires on my 71 Scamp. Except I have 28 x 13.50s. I drive it on the street and down the track. I only run 26 PSI on the street. So you have to watch you do not over inflate them.

In run a spring relocation kit on my Scamp with a narrowed rear axle, mini tubbed and I fit 28 x 13.50s DOT ET streets. If you buy a MP kit it will come with the rear shackles, tubes for the rear frame and boxes made for the front hangers, plus directions.

I think you should stay with the 4.5" back spacing. You only have about a 1/2" to the leak spring. You would still have room if you happen to get different tire that has wider side walls. I went from a 28 x 12.50 to a 28 x 13.50 with having about a 1/2" next to the S/S springs with the 12.50s.

I run a set of Sportman Pros and the DOT ET street tires and they were not to bad to balance. No seal problems because i run tubes for the track.
