Years ago...the motors that I built I never did the break in run! Did pre-prime the pump,set the timing as close as I could...but never did bring the rpms up and hold them above 1800 and the very it up to what ever...Never did have a cam failure... When we lite off the new 383 in my son's 68...

hey guys im wanting to run a gear drive on my 383! the motors goin to a 68 dart! umm is there any draw backs to a gear drive or is a timing chain better? or belt drive? best brands on gear belt and chain drives please?

According to engine builder...the anti freeze has some type of pentrating stuff in it what will some how get by the gaskets before they seal up. He has seen it happen where someone has gotten their motor in and all ready to start it...and for some reason run out of time and decided to call it a...

Straight 30 weight and straight water for the coolant. Local engine builder told me to use water for the first couple of hundred miles or so. This way the seals have a chance to set good. He said that the anti freeze will sometimes seep thru the gaskets... Just a thought! Rick
