Black steelies and drag radial look?

They're Mopar reproductions from Wheel Vintiques. You would need to take careful measurements on your car to determine the maximum backspace (allowing for tire section width/sidewall) before the tire contacts your leaf springs, inner fender, etc. I can't say for sure since I don't have a stock...

Black steelies and drag radial look?

The stock wheel tub should accommodate a 275 tire.

Black steelies and drag radial look?

They're 15x8 with 5.25" of backspace. Pretty weird, I know. But here's why. It has a b-body rear that was originally narrowed for a different pair of rear wheels and tires. I don't recall where the dimension on the axle ended up at but it's narrower than a stock B and a little wider (I believe)...

Black steelies and drag radial look?

All right - who dug up this thread that's 3 months old?!! :) I'm actually in agreement with a number of things - including a wider wheel with much deeper dish and possibly not even steelies at all. But hey, I wanted to be able to easily (and cheaply) swap on some drag radials, and not...

Black steelies and drag radial look?

Thanks, Doug (and others). Drop spindles in front. 1" blocks in rear.

Black steelies and drag radial look?

Hey, no problem. I intentionally lowered the car when I originally built it and it actually does have a slight rake under most conditions. Ironically, I lowered it because I don't prefer a lot of air above the tires - and I see many Mopars with a lot of air. My original wheel/tire combo has the...

Black steelies and drag radial look?

Had B-body rear narrowed a long time ago to 58.25" (narrower than B but wider than A). Had also installed offset hangers. Had room to work with but wanted to make sure the tires were tucked in.

Black steelies and drag radial look?

A nod to the old school look. Like the tires (Nitto 555R 275/60-15 drag radials) but in this case, not sure about the 15x8 black steelies with custom backspace. Leave 'em black? Paint 'em body color? What do you think? (Way better traction now)

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

Thanks, crj1968! Thanks, yeah that's the other piece of the puzzle. I'm planning a drive shaft upgrade too and want to make friggin' sure the rear is where it needs to be.

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

Maybe you're right. I want to do my homework to avoid laying out cash and then having an "Ah, crap!" moment that requires more cash to fix.

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

Oops, my bad. I should have said MP offset hangers, not relocation. So, no meat there. Relocation is what I actually should have done (10 years ago).

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

Yeah, I'm thinking it must (mostly) be a spring thing. I've got MP spring relocation hangers and ESPO springs - which likely use stock dimensions.

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

The responses, so far, are curious. Another member here (Demon 408) tells me he has 1/4" to 1/2" clearance with a 275/60 (which is 28").

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

With 26" rear tires I have just under 1.5" of clearance between the front of the tire and the wheel opening at the rocker. If I go to a 28" tire, that will leave a scant 1/4" to 3/8" clearance without moving the rear end back - unless I'm missing something. What kind of clearance do you guys...

    Painting Steel Wheels

    Painting Steel Wheels

IMO, you'll get better results painting the bare wheels. A competent tire shop should be able to mount the tires without wheel finish damage.

    New wheels won't clear hubs

I posted my .02 over on bigblockdart.com - here it is again: Been down this road with another brand wheel. You either go with an aftermarket hub assembly (like Wilwood), turn the center of the stock disc brake hub (and all future hubs) down or do what I did and open the center of the wheel up...

    tire wheel - help

You can physically install tires on wheels smaller or larger than recommended. It affects both aesthetic looks and tire performance. Remember that 275 is the section width, not tread width. I run a 255 on an 8" wheel and it "looks" about right to my eye. A 275 would only be about 3/4" wider...

Found my dream rims. Tell me it's not a nightmare.

Agree with Brian: do what you want. I had a buddy who had a set of those gold Enkei's on his TA back in the day. Here's a similar pattern from a Chrysler LHS. They're 16" but a FWD offset could be a problem.

Tire size with bbody rear end in Demon

After moving the perches a b-body rear will work as-is depending on wheel backspacing and whether you want the tires to tuck inside the fender or not. I had mine narrowed slightly so that an 8" wheel with 4.5" backspace would clear.

    235/60/15 front's

FWIW, I have 225/50-16's on the front with 8" wheel with 4.5" backspace. The points that have the least clearance is the leading lower corner of the fender and the mounting tab/bolt at the rear. They just tuck in at the top. I may go to a slightly narrower combo in front.

dang - welded in 3/16 spacer ring on wheels and still the brakes pulsate

If they were disc brakes I'd say they were warped and need to be resurfaced. For drums you may have a drum that's corroded in one spot, damaged, or otherwise untrue. If the car pulls to one side with drums you probably have one that's out of adjustment, sticky wheel cylinder, etc. Have you...
