Need help choosing X or H pipe

I got 2 1/2" dual exhaust with flowmaster 40s with for my 318. There isn't an H pipe or X pipe. It doesn't feel like it lost any power but seems like it gained some. It is pretty loud.

    Exhaust manifold leaks

I got the rattling to stop by rotating the riser all the way. I tried to see which direction is open and closed. But exhaust still came out the tailpipe either way it was rotated. I think the main leak is coming from where the manifold connects to the head. It is pretty loud, but I cant find...

    Exhaust manifold leaks

Thanks, so that isn't an issue with mine then. Yeah it's the car in my picture and it has the original engine.

    Exhaust manifold leaks

Yeah I looked into them. What about the air injection holes? Everything is original on the motor.

    Exhaust manifold leaks

Thanks. The manifold gasket is less than a year old. I was thinking about something like that to stop it from rattling. I would just need to make sure it is in the right direction.

    Exhaust manifold leaks

My passenger side manifold has an exhaust leak. It seems to have started after the engine was rebuilt. I just had the exhaust system done and it still leaks around there. They said it was coming out near that heat riser thing and where it connects to the head. There is a lot of rattling noise...

    Exhaust and Muffler Recommendations

I might do dual exhaust on the 318 with 2 1/4" pipes and Flowmaster 40s. I've had them on two of my other cars and like them. I believe I read here that dual 2 1/2" would be too much for the stock motor. I like how the factory tailpipe is barely visible, so I was thinking about keeping it...

    TTI Now What

My motor mounts are shot! I wouldn't be able to do headers until I get new ones.

Want to quiet this thing down..

Yup + your labor or someone else's cost $ too. I like Flowmasters and have had them on all of my cars. The Scamp still has the factory muffler but it is barely hanging on with a little rust! One way to check is to look that car, engine, and exhaust combination on YouTube to see what sound you...

Want to quiet this thing down..

Typically the more expensive headers will last longer, install easier, and not hang so low to get dented. It may be different for other cars but everyone says for the Dart, Dougs or TTI are good.
