Appreciate some input on spark plug reading

I'm not saying that a smaller carb can't make a lower ET at the dragstrip but for me the test at the dragstrip they used to confirm this was not conclusive proof. There may be better test out there to use as evidence. The article is written in a way to make you believe that the reason the car...

What is the data acquisition system you are using? Thank you.

If you do your own tuning then you know the challenges and frustration that come with tuning. You also know how rewarding it can be too. Some days i have to ask myself why.

    Compression

No. That's probably close to the idle speed depending on the rest of the combination. Dyno sweeps are done at full load wide open throttle. I don't think this engine would be used under those conditions at that rpm. I will use the dyno to tune the strongest stable idle I can. I can load the...

    Compression

Absolutely. These type of motors can be very challenging. Especially if it is an automatic car. Most customers want a car that will idle on it's own without stalling. They don't want it to stall when they put it in gear. They don't want it to fall on it's face, hesitate or back fire as they...

    Compression

That might be what is most important to you when dyno testing and much of the time that is what my customer wants . But that isn't always the case for me or my customers at the dyno. As an example sometimes trading a few hp at the maximum in order to increase power somewhere else is beneficial...

    Compression

I can only speak for my dyno as far as accuracy at low rpm. It can measure accurately but if the engine has a " big cam" the engine might not run well at low rpm and if the the engine doesn't run well it might not repeat well. Not having repeatability makes it difficult to evaluate changes...

I can't speak for the dyno shows but it could be a matter of what they think the veiwers want to see and having to choose what to put in and what to leave out.

Why do you think the dyno can't load properly and measure accurately at low rpm?

BEST CARBURETOR FOR STREET OR TRACK?

If your point is that a smaller a carburetor (650) is making more power than a larger carburetor (750) then shouldn't the two carburetors at least be prepared similarly and by the same builder to eliminate all the variables that could affect the power that are not cfm related? I'm not picking...

"V" GROOVE OR "SOFT" COMBUSTION CHAMBERS!

What head or heads have you tested this on? As far as combustion chamber shape or specific head, piston shape (dome?) compression ratio and how much piston to quench pad clearance. Also how and where did you soften the chamber? What timing number and at what rpm did you end up with? Do you have...

Maybe an other head producer in the game.

Truly amazing. I should say I didn't mean to Imply that your brother was rich, a young kid or that he doesn't work on his car. The character In my post was one I chose because it would be how the guy with the new car might be perceived by "old school guy". My feelings are more... Rich Guy =...

Maybe an other head producer in the game.

I just looked up Challenger 1320. Very impressive. And 20+ MPG on the highway. When you consider all the boxes this car checks as daily transportation it's performance on the race track is even more impressive. And naturally aspirated. I see why it rubs old school racers the wrong way. They...

Anybody ever tried this little gizmo?

After your back heals up, try it without the check weight. Or because it can be difficult to get the weght out, loosen the nozzel screw a couple turns. I had a nozzle that wouldn't squirt and ended up grinding a little off the bottom of the screw. Some require a hollow screw also. Good luck.

    Slow 1/8 with 74 440 dart

You can check your cam with the motor in the car. You don't need a degree wheel. You can use your balancer. You will need a piston stop, stagger tape and a dial indicator with a magnetic base. You need to remove all the spark plugs and the driver side rocker shaft. Assuming it is a hydraulic...

Anybody ever tried this little gizmo?

You're sort of making the assumption that fuel is already distributed evenly without the plate. In some applications where the fuel is not distributed evenly (as is often the case in a dual plane manifold) there is the outside chance that the plate could actually improve fuel distribution. When...

    Which fuel?

I might have missed it but I don't recall seeing any information to support this. Please point me to it if I am mistaken. Sorry for doubting you if that is the case. Race engine winter storage question

Which driven oil are you using? XP doesn't have a rust inhibitor additive in it. I would change to an oil that does have a rust inhibitor for storage over the winter. Don't quote me but I think the driven HR series and the driven GP oils have the necessary additives for storage. I also...

I’m not much into dyno numbers.

I agree with most of what you're saying. I can't speak for all dynos but in my case hardly anyone comes for a bragging rights dyno sheet. Around here people are pretty tight lipped about their motor program. I'm curious, how do you view a chassis dyno?
  29. 92b

I’m not much into dyno numbers.

I always start with dyno headers. I match the dyno header to the customers as close as possible. The dyno headers have Egt probes and o2 sensors in them. At some point, usually after everything is dialed in close I will switch to the customers headers. I loose my egt data but most cases it's not...

I’m not much into dyno numbers.

I have run into that before. Sometimes they just want it broke in and don't even want a dyno sheet. They just want to know that the motor is ok and not leaking oil. Not how I would do it but for them it might make sense. Some customers don't know how to properly set timing, adjust valves or...
